Pre-ignition Tim, you've just stepped up the octane rating and stopped it. Check your spark plug gaps, these are critical, we had a car on a CO meter years back that was off the richter scale, turned out to be a plug gap closed up. The gap controls the burn rate and timing more than you realise. Why...

Use the allen key socket bits, (1/2" drive not the 1/4" B&Q specials...) Locate the bit in the screw head and give it a few good smacks with a decent hammer. oil light
Common problem, don't panic your engines fine.
Mine does it, a '94 with 23,000 miles on it. They all use oil and the level sensor is stupidly sensitive. Mine does it on the trip to Wales and back. Just keep her topped up and you'll be fine.

Rob

I take it your losing your side lamps and instrument lamps when the headlamp is switched on. The poblem is in the switch, remove it and inspect the contacts inside, if your lucky you'll be able to repair it, if not it's a replacement job.

Rob

Don't turn your disc's in a lathe, the only method is to surface grind them, and if they're that bad, replace them.

By turning them the pad will naturally follow the direction of the cut, spiralling inward, this causes masses of vibration. The better coolant properties come because of the higher boiling point, if your coolant turns to steam it aint cooling anymore is it?

Yes race cars do use electric pumps, yes it does free off a couple of HP, also they run power steering off electric pumps too, (if fitted) to reduce the drain....

Ohlins is a bloody expencive road to go down, but the kit is top quality. have you thought of getting a unit off e-bay and getting it overhauled? I got one for £30 off e-bay that was knackered and sent it in to Maxton, cost me £85 and it's now as good as new. I would highly recomend Maxton, they do ...

antifreeze
Clint, the reason it's called antifreeze is it has a much lower freezing point which will stop it freezing in extreme cold whilst stationary. We do have this problem over here in the UK during winter and it's amazing how many cars end up with a split cylinder block due to the owners not having anti-...

torque specs
Engine torque specs would be the most useful, followed by headstock bearings, swingarm etc.
As for any other fittings, I employ the VFT method, very f'kin tight so it don't fall off.
It would be useful to indicate the use of stud-lock on certain component's like brake disc bolts, just so anyon...

We have shiesterbolts over here in the UK that give you wheels back looking like they were shot at with a 12 gauge shotgun then painted, and still expect to be paid, had this twice now (and no I didn't part with the reddies). Sound like you have a bloke who knows what he's doing so you should be OK....

Good point Don, and a quick smear round the seal with oil/grease before it goes on, stop's the bugger welding itself on for next time. paint
You can paint your wheels, but you will need to get them chemically stripped down to bare ally, your would need them ally etch primered then painted and laquered. Pain in the arse and not worth it. Get them stripped (Try to avoid shot or sand blasting, it pitts the ally) and powder coated. Never see...

OWO1 plastic on an FZR1000
I'm wondering if an OWO1 fairing and seat section would fit on an FZR1000. Specifically a '94 model. I'm looking at single seating the bike (lower insurance over here if I do) and I don't fancy an R1 back end as I like the FZR's style better.
The other alternative is a YZF750SP seat unit, but I'v...
