That's good to know. It's the first time I've ever had a brand new pipe on any bike I've ever owned. :D

I barely have a rudimentary understanding of what you're saying, Jim, but I'll take your word for it because you are THE MAN! :banana

(it's the ratio of air to fuel, correct?)

Thanks for the help, guys. I'm going for a long ride tomorrow. After that I'll decide whether to adjust the air screws.

I'm still curious though: has anyone encountered the pipe smell I'm talking about? Some kind of factory protectant or something that burns off?

Does lean equal fast? More power?

I'm confused. I'm assuming it's running lean because of the popping I hear. If that's correct I'd have no reason to think the exhaust is leaking, right? Or are you thinking the popping could be caused by both? I bought the bolt-on (slip-on) because I understood no rejetting would be required. I thou...

Running lean?

Alright, I through a bolt-on onto my YZF. It backfires a bit when I let off the throttle. It's runnin' screaming fast, and haven't noticed any down side other than the slight backfire. Is this anything I should worry about? I've always heard "lean equals fast". Is this true? That's how it feels, fas...

Very cool, Mike! But no more EXUP? Does she run lean, nasty, and fast? When I got mine it had a straight pipe on it. I liked it except for the noise and backfiring when I let off the gas. It was like riding a fire breathing dragon. Congrats!

Thanks, Don. So many great roads in Colorado. Maybe I should take the day off and go inspect this route. I'm sure my boss would understand.

Come on down, man! Just wait for the sand to get blown out of the corners. It's still pretty hairy this time of year.

That's about an hour north of me. I'll have to make it up there this summer. Who's coming?

Not happy? They were selling Dr Phil's Ferrari at Barrett Jackson yesterday. $220K gets you the car plus a trip to see the Doc! :poke Anyways, thanks for the advice. I may just wait a while and see what kind of feedback they get.

Harley racing story

A saw this on a local forum and thought you'd get a kick. I raced a Harley today and after some really hard riding I managed to PASS the guy. I was riding on one of those really, really twisting sections of canyon road with no straight sections to speak of and where most of the curves have warning s...

So I rode around for a few minutes. Every time I hit the gas, I could see a puff of smoke from the pipe. By the time I got home (a few minutes later) it had stopped, and twisting the throttle produced no smoke. :|
It's about 38 degrees out.

Hmmm, what do you mean, Jim? I ran down and started it up again. The exhaust smells like gasoline. Am I just overreacting?

Curious about whitish smoke

It's Colorado, and has been in the 30s and 40s lately. It seems most of the cars on the road have whitish smoke coming from the exhaust, and I always attributed this to the temperature outside. How much of this is normal? Whenever I warm up my bike I get a bit of smoke, and when it's warmed up it st...

Don, thanks for the tip on the books. I can't even remember the last time I read an actual book, and not just a magazine or article on the net.
