Very interesting. All the articles I ever read about the '89 FZR1000 said that Yamaha had designed new crankcases that only tilted the cylinders forward 35° instead of the 87-88 FZR1000's 45°. I did read about Bimota tilting the engine to basically achieve the same thing. Go figure...

They were only imported in 97 everywhere as the R1 came out in 98 and pre 97 was the FZR of course. No dude...In Europe (and possibly other markets) Yamaha continued to sell the Thunderace and R1 side by side until the Thunderace was finally discontinued in 2003. We certainly got the short end of t...

For their age they still look fresh & drop dead sexy.. :banana
Yea, she still looks good, not to mention quite unique here in the States since it was only imported in '97. I rarely ever see any others around.

Well it is shorter and that does make it look a little better, but the quality and fit of the Yosh is better.

What's your take on the Yosh over the Remus? Well The Yosh is louder w/o the dbkiller in place. I really only got to ride it around the block as I didn't have much time. The quality is also better than the Remus. The only thing I didn't like about it is that it's longer, but given the rear dimensio...

Glad to see you have returned from the dark side... I'm gathering there is a bit of a story with this one... Care to fill us in :) Well not much of a story actually...lol. I sold my other '97 YZF1000 in May of '09 (which I regretted almost instantly) and bought the '06 FZ1. A few months later I sta...

So I recently swapped out the windscreen for a clear Puig double bubble and got a red front fender to replace the stock black one. IMHO it looks much better with the red one. Enjoy the pics ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v664/tmarquez1/1997%20YZF1000_2/IMG_2199.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/a...

This issue mostly affected the '06 and some early '07 models. At that it was a tiny percentage that had the issue. My '06 FZ1 is perfect ;)

In The US some states don't require helmet usage, seems silly to me too. Canada has had a helmet law for a good while and you still get the twits who'll buy a $20 pudding bowl with a fake dot sticker just to prove a point, what point that is I don't know. The only point they make wearing those is t...

Kelly Blue Book (a buyer/sellers vehicle guide) lists the following: "This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the unit has been fully reconditioned and is in excellent condition...." 2003 FZ-1 = $4065 USD (CAD $4260) 2003 YZFR6 = $3955 USD (CAD $4145) I'm not sure that it's as simple as that Tim. ...

Yea, we all tend to procrastinate every once in a while. I took apart my perfectly running '97 YZF1000 last November with the intention of freshening it up cosmetically over the Winter. Well here is June and only now is it coming back together. Although I have to say it's coming along nicely. I will...

Good article...that rivalry got serious starting in '89 when Yamaha introduced the first EXUP FZR1000. It simply sent everybody back to the drawing board. And Yamaha pulled that same stunt again in '98 with the introduction of the R1.

Congratulations Spook! That is one rare bike.

Speaking of Bimota's, there's an older guy that I run into once in a while on Sunday morning rides that has a Bimota fetish...he owns seven, that's right seve of them! And one of them is one of the first Tesi's to come to the US.
