Re: relays

You have to consider both the source and sink when upgrading the head light circuit. If you just wire in relays and use the same ground wiring, You've only eliminated half the marginal ciruit ( no switches on ground, but wiring is still the same thin gauge). Keep in mind that these ponies are quickl...

Re: clean

I just wanted to add the following to be clear: valve lash has a direct affect on the vacuum level at idle, so that should be rechecked if you are going to re-synch. Otherwise, the sync job will cause markedly different butterly positions between all the carbs and cause wacky differences in idle mix...

Re: Jets

The oil on the threads could be a sign that your starting to burn oil. How often do you top off? Does it smoke when you first start it, or when you drop the hammer? It might be the valve seals. If you don't have an oil coat on the base of your plugs, its probably no big deal yet.

If your popp...

Re: HYVO chain

Play it cool, guy!

Its noisy, that's how it was designed, and there is no problem with it. There is no tensioner on it so it slaps around a little at idle. It's a big ass chain that connects your alternator and starter to the crank and it really has an easy life. Its swimming in oil and sees ...

Re: Weird Ticking/Knocking

These motors really clatter at low rpm when the hyvo chain bangs against the guide block and it disappears around 2k. You just need to verify that's all it is.

I personally would avoid removing the air box, unless your prepared to live with a bigger hole in your power curve.

Re: flashers

There should be no problem with unhooking the running lights as long as you don't inadvertantly plug them into the signal circuit. I personally would leave them plugged in to let other drivers know that your not just another car coming down the road with a headlight out.

Re: '88 FZR1000 Electrical Help!!!!!!!!!!

You don't want those wire flapping around when your burning up the road. I think that you should crimp connectors on them and anchor them to the frame.

but ...

Re: exup squeek

I've heard my R1 exup squeek when it moves, and I would think that this is normal. It operates in a hot zone and collects products of combustion. There really are no grease type lubricants that operate at that temperature, so they have to rely on oxide layers, dissimilar metals, carbide bushings, or...

Re: Bollocks!

Bleeding the clutch is a royal pain. The problem is that the fluid ends up frothing up and there are micro-bubbles of air that keep the clutch spongy. Try waiting a few days to let the bubbles coalesce and re-bleed the system. Another problem that you might have is your clutch boss and basket might ...

Re: flashers

That's how my 87 is wired up. You should have Three wires on each side with bullet type connectors. The running lights are powered by the blue wire on both sides. The left turn signal is 'chocolate' and the right is dard green. The remaining wire is ground. make sure that your wires are correctly ho...

Re: YZF 750 SP, FZR 750 R OW01 factory kit parts, engine?

I've never had the hardness checked on the gear dogs to knowfor sure if they have been hardened. Some of the smaller gears within the cluster appear to be heat treated. Most appear to be soft. like many of you, I've had to replace components due to second gear shift dogs rounding over. From what I r...

Re: headlight

I don't recommend a simple replacing of 35W bulbs with 55 or 60W units, unless your looking for trouble. The wiring system was not set up to endure the constant higher amp draw. Your best bet is to use relays as mentioned in this thread, so that your harness doesn't have a melt down at a connector o...

have you checked your bearings? Also, check the torque on all the fasteners. If they were loose, your axle might be bent.

Re: speedo

I would like to point out that the 'hall effect' and a magnetic reed switch are two distinct concepts. The reed switch activates by a beam being physically bent in the presence of a magnetic field. The 'hall effect' is something entirely different. It has to do with the shifting of an electrical cur...

Re: R1 speedo

I would like to point out that reluctance type sensors ( like the crank position sensor) are current generating devices. The sensor is basically a button magnet with two pole pieces attached to it. One pole piece is the button in the center, the other is a metal ring around the periphary. There is a...
