Re: carb probs-reassembled
If your getting arcing on the high tension wires, I wouldn't bother playing with the carbs until the ignition is in top shape. Check your plug caps resistance and coil resistance against the manual. If that all jives, check your pick up coil resistance. I had a bad pick up coil wich caused misfire a...

Re: carb probs
Before you start playing with the jets, check the float levels and make sure that the vent tubes are not plugged. Are your main jets stock? It could be a too large main jet.

A way to narrow the list of possible suspects is to do a roll on test. Try second gear, slowly bring the RPM up in gea...

Re: Help with carburation
look for carb modifications to your slides first such as lighter springs or drilled out signal holes in the bottom of the slides. If that's not it we could dig a little deeper.

Re: 1990 FZR1000 EXUP adjustment > more power
If your cabling is not adusted right and your butterfly plates are open more than they should be, you will probably see a dip in the power curve. This dip could make it feel more powerful if the torque comes on aburptly. Don't confuse an abrupt power delivery with a monster output. I don't know what...

Re: fz 700 bearing
I wouldn't ride it before it is repaired. Actually I find it hard to believe that you have two balls missing and it is otherwise holding together. The balls are held in a retainer and run in a race that constrains them very well. They can't just fall out, something has been very persuasive at making...

Re: fz 700 bearing
Quite a bit of trouble. It entails the following:

1. yank out the motor
2. remove the clutch components
3. remove the cams
4. remove the head/cylinder
5. loosen all the bolts in sequence. Some on top, some on the bottom, some between the connecting rods.
6. split the cases
...

Re: most are tight
I would not adust the clearance if the range is .008 - .012 and you are .009. If it were reading somewhere between .007- .008 I definitely would change;whereas, if the reading were somewhere between .012-.013 I would probably leave it alone.

Re: source for adjusting pads
If you find that you are in tolerance, but close to the limit, leave it. That's the purpose of having a defined acceptable range. Since you have many miles on it, parts have mated to each other and the wear rate is very slow. There are two types of wear that have an affect on the clearance. valve se...

Re: thanks
I modded a set of standard feeler gages by cutting them to half width, with a cut off wheel on a dremel tool. It works great, just make sure that you clean them very good.

Re: will they work??
Your bike would not run on 3 cylinders if you had a bad coil. It would in fact run on 2. The reason is that the High tension side of the coil fires 2 plugs simultaneously. The electrical path has both plugs wired in series, so both plugs would spark together, or not at all. Each cylinder pair fire o...
Re: fz 700
It comes out pretty easy. Just take the sprocket off and it's readily accessible. Punch a couple of holes in its face with an awl biased toward its outer diameter. Thread a couple of sheet metal screws into it only far enough to grab it and yank on them to get it out. Be careful because you only hav...

Re: Knocking
The knocking sounds like a chain that has worn un-evenly. Check the tension of your chain at various positions to see if it varys. Also, look for links that bind up. Replace your chain if you find it to be at fault. This condition will send shock loads through your drive train and will loosen your c...

Re: 1989 EXUP firing problems
I would start the investigation by checking the carbs out. It sounds like you might have clogged jets that would cause 1 cylinder to misfire, or it could be a problem with rich running. The float level might be high, or the choke might not fully seat and cause rich running. Also check for unrestrict...

Re: new regulator
It's on the low side of OK. BTW fuses function by getting hot. they are made of a resistive low melt alloy. When the Z portion of the fuse conducts too much current, it can't shed the heat and blows out. What to watch out for is corrosion at the connector. This will a lot of heat but it won't be loc...

Re: Um, ?
You have to take off the cylinder jug and remove to unscrew the remaining crankcase bolts. I hope you didn't damage anything by prying your cases .125 in. apart. Other members have mentioned reassembly without these bolts for easier disassembly, I wouldn't recommend it since these keep the main jour...
