Flat spot? sort of not anymore...

I went to Marin today, through the GG... and up Mount Tam to Marshal and inland to 101 through Nicasio Valley road and back. I really like this YZF. I ride an Aprilia miller in Europe but It feels as if the YZF transitions quicker from side to side. Must have a lower center of gravity. It is quicker...

flat spot

well, my fueling issues are definitely solved. After installing a FP Super sport kit in the carbs, the bike runs from idle to red line like a champ. Here are the settings if any one ever needs them. Pilot jets 22.5, main jets 122.5 needles onthe second position from the top, mixture screws at 3.5 tu...

flat spot...

OK here is the scoop on that flat spot. One of the needle was bent as seen in the picture. It turns out these needles are dynojet's brand. How can you tell? they have 6 slots, and the FP only have 5 slots. So said the fellow at FP. I ended up by buying a new jet kit and it sure solved my flat spot, ...

drag racer,

I double checked the size of the pilot jet and they are indeed Mikuni's 17.5. Remember this is a 97 YZF Thunderace, not an FZR, as best as I can tell. Also the spec sheet lists 17.5 pilot jets. I went to a Yamaha dealer ship and ran into a fellow who used to work at a Kawi dealers...

flat spot update

ok Dragracer,

here is what I found. All four carbs have a float height between12.30 to 12.42 mm. That is well within the .5mm tolerance. One of the needkle tip is no longer straight. It might have been forced in the emulsion tube. One of the choke plunger wasn't returning all the way, but tha...

flat spot.

Thanks Dragracer,

I'll take the carbs out tomorrow and check the float height and emulsion tubes for ovalisation. The air leak in the pipe is fixed, but the bike still backfires. I also have a feeling it was used to go to MC Donalds only. The fellow who bought it in 1998 only put on 1000 mile...

flat spot

Hello Dragracer,

the bike has 6400 miles. Yesterday I fixed an exhaust leak at the slip on, Yoshimura. The bike had been backfiring under closed throttle. I'll check today if the backfiring is gone. It seems to me as if the bike picks up fine from 4000rpms, it just doesn't seem very smooth at...

Very sweet handling af...

Re: flat spot. . .

Hi all,

I just bought a 97 YZF California version. Stock air filter and Yoshi slip on. The bike used to stutter badly from idle to 3Krpms. I checked the exup valve, and the cable were very loose. I set them up and the stutter now goes from idle to 2Krpms. I also reset the idle mixture screws ...
