Yea, I just went to a regular R1 caliper. Worked wonders. The stock MC gave HUGE brakes but the feel was pretty wooden. I think that's your issue. The R1/R6 MC's are not the same I don't believe.

I would not worry about them updating the bike in the next little bit. If you like it, buy it.
