RE:10 year old lid
Hey John if you plan on doing a track day with me you better get a current DOT helmet or they won't let you on the track. Damn 10 yrs old and you still trust it. If my helmet makes it into a 4'th season its had a very long life. The one I have now is two seasons old and this will more than likely be its last.
Jim

95 FZR1000

Re: RE:10 year old lid
Shoei all the way, although I must admit I used a HJC for 9 months last year. I love the snug fit of the Shoei nothing comes close for comfort. When I got the HJC FG-12 I actually went a size smaller than I normally take just to try and re-create the feel of a Shoei. After about 6 months it just felt like an old helemt again. This is a big part of the quality you get when you pay for a Shoei, it feels like a new helmet for the majority of its life. Even now I occaisionly throw on my old Shoei X8 Magee replica and it feels better than most of the junk out there. Seriously though, for the guys looking to buy a lid get the best you can afford.

I'm suprised HJC hasn't got a vote yet (at the time of posting) with the amount of US contingency here. Its been the number 1 selling helmet over there for the last 15 years!!!
Clint.

'87 FZR1000T
gen·e·sis (jen-i-sis)n. pl.:The coming into being of something; the origin.

Re: Pricing
I'll be honest and say that the first helmet I bought was an AGV and I bought it simply due to price (half off). I know fit is more important, but at the time I didn't know if I was going to be a long term rider, and didn't know if this was just a fad so I bought a inexpensive (normally mid-price) helmet that fit snugly and had decent safety ratings (snell and ansi in Aus). Second helmet - went back to AGV because the first one was quite comfortable and after trying on many different ones in the shop the AGV won out for comfort and 'snugness'.

However I am now considering a Nolan flip-face helmet. I am tired of taking off my glasses everytime I take off or put on my hlemet, and this is one solution. They have had decent <a href="http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/access ... and I find them quite comfortable...

After years of Arais I bought one of these two years ago. It is THE quietest lid I`ve ever owned and probably the most comfortable. Re: RE:10 year old lid
Hi, do not know if you get the Caberg helmets in the states but I tried one as a replacement for my Shoei TRX and found it lighter with better vision and air circulation but with more wind noise. The wind noise can be over come with ear plugs anyway. Another plus is that it is track legal not bad for £100 !

Mack <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... ananna.gif ALT=":banana">

John, biggest problem with Suomy's market is thers not that many stores (at least in my area) that even carry them.
Rob

I'm going out today to try on a few different lids. So am I the only one that has a Uvex Wing RS, in blue and grey to match the FZR ?? Great helmet, not the most quiet but for me its very comfy and the anti mist as standard on both the clear and tint visor is a real must on cold mornings.
www. ...

Re: RE:10 year old lid
Well I went all over Albuquerque yesterday trying on helmets (talk about static hair syndrome!) Anyways, I wasn't able to find any Suomy's to try on, but tried on a fair amount of Arai's and Shoei's....I like that Arai has got the three different head-shapes (round, oval, long oval I think...). I wore a Medium in HJC, but in reality it was too big...so I actually ended up with a small (hard to believe huh?) But for whatever reasons Shoei's Z-II fit me the best--better than the arai/hjc--no pressure spots and snug everywhere Plus the shop was trying to get rid of the '04 helmets for the 05's (man I love shopping at the end of a season ), so I ended up getting the lid for $350 (well $370 w/ tax...). I think it's a pretty good price, plus it will match up lovely with my suit

Arai did have a great reputation for taking care of problems with their lids though....

My Shoei Z-II
Nbot
'94 Fizzer Litre
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... ot>Nbot at: 12/30/04 9:59 am

I can't find my old thread on leathers now, but I got the Joe Rocket Highside 2 Piece (the 2 piece were the only one's that were going to fit me right off the rack). I've read some good and bad reviews from lowsides w/ em...but they fit me good and I couldn't really afford Vanson's right now, so....here's a pic below, but mine are red where the green is (black and red then)....got them from a closeout sale at newenoughleathers.com

<a href="http://www.epinions.com/auto-Motorsport ...
Nbot
'94 Fizzer Litre
This is your sig on drugs....

Nice work bot, I've never seen that graphic over here. Re: RE:10 year old lid
I have thouroughly tested Shoei's helmets for 17 years now and won't ever go anywhere else, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it, 2nd choice would be arai. If you've ever taken a BIG spill and your helmet actuallr saved your life, you continuosly ask yourself one ?, How much is your brain worth, for me, I spen an average of $200-$350 on my main helmet, and what ever deal I can get on a quality going out helmet. For fit I say find a good helmet fitter and ask them what they would recomend, if they only have one brand, it limits you, but the fit is the most important. The more you research the more you know what your cranium is riding in. I had a low side and brushed my Shoei XSP-II Creville going 35 mph. Sent it to Shoei for my FREE XRAY, YES FREE TO SHOEI CUSTOMERS!!! The result, errrrrtnnnttXXXXXXXX No Good anymore, thank you for playing. Bought another XSP-II Gibernau this time, and went into a dear @ 100mph, skiped accross road, gravel, dirt , forest, and bike parts. Sent the helmet into Shoei for my FREE Xray. Result, Your helmet shows no sign of structural failure. Shell completely in tact and is Shoei certified to return to full use. Now that's a company I'm standing with forever. 2 years later wearing the same Gib Shoei, I was run off the road into a rock band at 60 mph. The helmet is TOAST, but once again I owe my life to Shoei. Not to mention Alpinestars and Sidi. I am the proud owner of a RF-1000 and an old X8 that is used as a spare/ riding downtown helmet. All of my closest friends and fellow riders wear nothing except Shoei/ Arai/ or Nolan as the choise. Sure there are so many to choose from, but you have to find what's right for you.

Chuck D.

True fact about fit Chuck.
I have two KBC VR1's and a HJC of some sort on the shelf...
I'm about to go looking for a new helmet and I think it'll be a Shoe or an Arai. I really value a quiet helmet and the VR1 has been one. I replaced the liners in both about 9 months ago and they got lots louder though...
So , time ot go shopping
Jim<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ...
