Wicked's Bad Luck...
Well guys, it finally happened to me, I crashed last night and my season is done til next year probably. It rained hard in the afternoon and then cleared off, no clouds anywhere so I got on the GSXR and headed to town.
I met up with the boys in the usual spot and we went riding. Halfway through the big loop we lost 3 guys in traffic so I decided as group leader we would pull into a gas station and wait for them, thats when it happened. I swearved to miss a pothole in the driveway and nailed a curb, the Gixxer threw me and I landed hard on my right shoulder and head.
I now am out cold in the gas station parking lot. Next thing I know people are standing over me and I try to get up, I get the worst pain I have ever felt in my life, cant move my right arm and I have roadrash on the back of my head.
3 hours in the emergency room later, cat scans and x-rays, collar bone is broke. A friend rode my GSXR back to his place and stuck it in the garage, not exactly sure of the damage, but they say it doesnt look all that bad, time will tell on me though, but I know I am done for this year.

I feel your pain
Fractured my left collorbone in a low speed high side almost 18 months ago.....Did they mention anything about plating it, or are they just going to leave it alone??
I also had a fractured scapula (shoulder blade) so my whole shoulder was unstable, so they had to plate my clavical
I know the frustration at how quickly this can happen, one minuet your riding, the next you have a hand full of painkillers and your arms in a sling for 6 weeks,
Chin up brother, stay cool

PLEASE do not take this the wrong way......
The monies you've now spent getting that CAT scan you could have bought a really nice helmet and would not have needed that scan.
If you weren't a Brother.... I'd have posted much sooner with a "No Helmet = No Compassion" type statement.
I too know about the ole busted collar bone. I've smashed mine 3 times and no amount of gear is gonna prevent that.

Hey Matt,
Just finishing my own collarbone injury from May 28 my friend, it still is sore. If it makes you feel any better though and not to but I also had 4 broken ribs and a punctured lung. So, I had the pain and I couldn't breath, in the back of my head somewhere, I was thinkin', this might be it???
AND, tomorrow morning I have yet another spinal fusion on my S1-L5, with partial discectomy and decrompression. Any praying individuals, if you aren't busy around 9:30 am Monday morning, Sept 24, I'd greatly appreciate a word? Thanks
Hope you heal up good and quicker than myself Matt. If you had surgery, at least you won't have the nasty bone bump I've got.

Yes Yes I know, I said, I'm building a project YZF1070
Basement is done now, 850 finished and gone...
Gotta get the new siding up on the house.
Fixing the FZ1 up, cleaning up garage and then I might even begin

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words, crashing does suck, but it is a fact of riding. This crash I really dont blame on myself, more so the city for the massive potholes they didnt fix when they re-blacktopped the road. Everyone keeps telling me I should sue the city for repairs to the bike and my medical bills, possibly more if I want to, not sure though what I will do.
I am feeling a little better, head doesnt hurt as much but my shoulder still hurts and my right arm is all numb. If I look in the mirror, it is obvious my right shoulder is drooped about an inch from the level of my left one. I tried some range of motion exercises today, cant move my right arm much past straight out to the side, it just wont move any higher.
I am calling into work tomorrow morning and letting them know I am going to be late/might not make it in. The E.R. doctor called the specialist while i was there (woke him up at 2am) and told him what was going on, so I need to call them in the morning and go in to see him.
My neighbor and I went over and got the bike today, I tried to ride it onto the trailer, was successful, but it really hurt me. I think I was swallowing the pain to help my own mind with the wounded pride issue. The bike isnt as bad as I was expecting. I need a right front fairing, a right mirror and a mirror stay and she will be almost good as before. The front upper fairing has some scrapes, but since it is black, they arent too noticeable so I am going to leave it be.
I was doing ok with the pain, until today. I took (drove in the car, duh) the dog to the Paws Park today, on the way there we went around a corner, she lost her balance and came flying over into my arm, hurt like hell.
FZRDude, I know bro, I should have had the helmet on, I DID have it with me, it just wasnt on my head. It would have only saved the roadrash on my head, but thats better than nothing.
Anyways, I am going to try to get some sleep, although its been pretty rough the last couple of nights. Seems like just as I fall asleep, I move and its wrong, instant pain and I am awake again.

Update
Well, the verdict is in, surgery is required. The E.R. people misread the x-rays and what they thought was a broken collar bone was just the fuzzyness of the swelling showing up on the x-ray friday night. I had a MRI on wedsnesday and weighted x-rays on thursday. I have a 3rd degree seperation of the shoulder, so monday they are going in to repair it.
From now on I get to carry a card in my wallet proclaiming I will set off metal detectors due to hardware inside me. I am ending up with 3 screws, a plate and some sort of wire to pull everything back to where it should be. 6-8 weeks is supposed to be the recovery time.
