Hey John I'm hoping to fit the R1 top fairing with lights over the winter months but i don't know wether to go back to clip ons or trim the fairing down & leave the the renthals in place,i've sort of got used to the sit up beg ride now & with the narrow twisty roads around here i might just leave 'em on.
I want to fit a Renthal too. After a 5000km trip this summer I don't want to see another clip-on in this life
I've already fitted a double bubble screen and will be trimming the sides and sorting out some way of removing the tank stay. I don't want to make the screen shorter so it's going to be a case of suck and see.
It'll be Sunday now, but I promise to try to get a work in progress thread up this weekend...

If you want to minimise the cutting of the screen and fairing, you can
reduce the steering angle available by installing a couple of allen head
bolts into the steering stop on the frame:
Be careful the first few times you ride it, I only noticed it in really tight
U-turns and squeezing between traffic, but you need to be ready
for it.

You ain't tried the Spondon!!! I still have to stomp a foot down from time to time. The turning circle is so shite you literally smack the fork tubes into the frame tubes and lose balance way before you'd imagine. Need a four lane road to turn around with any confidence of not having to do a three point turn... I have to back down the ramp into the garage because there's no way of turning round once you're in (well, OK, a 100 point turn anyone)?
Good idea then Cam, cheers. Would even make jumping off one bike and on the other less 'fraught'!

Your funny Tim. You can try my method also... Sit/straddle bike, start, warm up, apply front brake, select second gear, rev and release clutch while maintaining wheel spin... rotate bike around front wheel
Although I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS, you can put the sidesand down and then lean the bike up on just the stand
That's how we oil the chain on trips. Need to disconnect the sidestand safety switch first, but then it's a piece of cake. One guy tips the bike up on the stand, starts the engine and sticks it in gear with the clutch pulled in. The other squats behind with the chain lube in hand.
On my own I do the same but with a track stand instead of the side stand.

I was going to, I really was. I know it'd be an investment. I know they pay for themselves and all the rest, but everytime I come to pay the cash I back out. Two years running now.
Part of the problem is having two bikes. You know. Why buy for one and not the other? 'Cos I'm not forking out that much on two is the quick answer.
The other thing is priorities.
The Spondon got to the point were it just wouldn't run the eTubes were so shot, and between a FP Ti kit and FP eTubes plus new front disks that were essential, not bling, that's a lot of dough on one bike in one season.
Then the other is just crippling for the use I give it, so I want to go new seat (so new seat unit) plus motoX bars, and that means more mods and so far who knows how much dosh..... so for now pro-oilers are down the list.
When everything else is sorted and the bikes haven't cost me 'much' in a season or two I'll spend on that, then.
Until then, track stand, and regular if spare oiling so everything doesn't get cacked up with fling-off.
