...and taking forever. Why is it that after a while, you really dont put alot of effort in to fixing the bike? Bikes been sitting on stands for 2 weeks with the forks off. Well one fork off. One fork is done. Just too freaking hot in the garage and when night rolls around, I just dont want to do anything. Dammit I wanna test out those rotors I got from Ryan. :hissy


Makes it worse I found a small pit in the lower leg that may cause another leak in a few months. Thinking of just putting a dab of JB weld and smoothing it out with emery cloth to hold over until winter.

Thinking of just putting a dab of JB weld and smoothing it out with emery cloth to hold over until winter.
The JB Weld will do the trick nicely, I used it for building up and reshaping the inlet ports on the 750 - and two years later it still hasn't moved :)

JB weld on the intake Graham, TREASON. WTH though man, guess if it worked?? I should shutup eh? I've never been as lucky with jbweld myself, never stands up to exhaust too well.

Yea, we all tend to procrastinate every once in a while. I took apart my perfectly running '97 YZF1000 last November with the intention of freshening it up cosmetically over the Winter. Well here is June and only now is it coming back together. Although I have to say it's coming along nicely. I will post some pics when I get it all ready by the end of the month.

Bought a bike begin fall to turn into a streetfighter with the fenders I had, and 1 new. Still working on the 1 new, and the fall was the one in '08......
Recently started work again, so hopes are good it'll run spring 2015 ;)

Hey Rob, know where ya coming from. Try Marine Tex ... far superior. Brother closed up a gash in his auto's oil pan (on the car) and it lasted forever. It's got better adhesive propertiies. Good luck with it, wish it could fix my problems !!!

well forks are back on, brakes are on. Just need bodywork put back on and test ride.

Only concern is the "Leak-Proof" fork seals. They came with a washer. After getting the forks together and filled, I seen in their instructions (which I didnt even know the card they put in there opened up since it was stuck to the hard plastic wrap) that this washer is supposed to be put between the spring clip and seal which the factory stuff doesnt do or it could leak. Gesh, really. Why the hell didnt they just do like the factory does and like EVERY OTHER fork seal I ever bought does? If these start, I'm just gonna order OEM ones.

Now I might as well send the original factory forks out and see if they can be fixed with nitride coating, dlc or just rechromed. If not, looks like a new lower leg for the left fork on that set to the tune of $600. :roll: Rather spend the extra to have LE coat the forks and rebuild them.

BTW I should mention the reason I'm not in the garage right now (11:30PM now) putting the rest of it together. Its freaking muggy as hell right now. Took a whole 3 min before I started sweating like mad. One thing I HATE about the midwest when its hot. HUMIDITY.

Rob,
I want to say that most companies that do nitriding on forks would really really prefer the sliders to be NEW. Or at least that's what I was told. Could be wrong, probably am. If so, let us (me) know.

Yeah some companies dont want to do older forks. LE says just as long as they are polishable for the nitride. If not, just a rechrome.

Well its back together. Washed, on the charger (hasnet been started in a while) and waiting for the test ride.

Hard to believe this is the first real bath its had in over a year. :P

Well have to redo them. Freaking seal started leaking. :hissy Also going back to 10wt instead of the 5wt.

That should do it, providing the seal hasn't started to turn it self inside out. Last seals i purchased for the ow and r6 forks (same part#!), where from boat.net... about $7 u.s. per seal and genuine Yamaha.

Forks back on bike. Still need front wheel put back on. Been freaking hot as hell and humid here the last week. Plus tired when I get home from work and dont want to do a thing.

That combined with a not really in a mood to care about riding isnt exactly a good combo.

Finished it up tonight. In the 10 min it took me to put the front wheel and brakes back on at 11:30pm, I ended up sweating like mad. Kinda put the kabosh on taking it out tonight being this humid. Maybe saturday will be better. Still need to get a pic of the new rotors on the bike.

Well took it out tonight. Approx 350 miles. So far no leak. Wiped it down when I went to the gas station. Some of the oil that was left over in the dust shield came out, but nothing afterwards. Hopefully it holds until winter. Originals will be going out for rechroming (and probably have the upper tubes anodized Ohlins gold). Or if I get a wild hare, and a lot of extra $$$, order 2 new lower sliders and have them nitrided or DLC coated before I put them together.
