New family member
I picked this one up for not much money. It's a Husaberg FE501E 2001. It's the newest bike in my shed!
It's not running, but I think it is something simple. It needs the normal going over, fork seals, shock service, fluids, check everything. It has massive compression. It will have to take a back seat for a while, as I have a hundred other jobs to do before I start another...
Husaberg are no longer made, so I think it will be a collectable motorcycle in the future. Husaberg where Enduro and MX specialists, they didn't build any other type of bikes. They won 6 world enduro championships with their machines. 4 MX world championships, and a host of junior championships as well.
The bike itself is a very high spec. Chrome Moly frame, high end WP suspension front and rear, Brembo brakes, etc etc.
Looking forward to doing some adventure riding on it. Being an Enduro bike it can be road registered.

Yes Yes I know, I said, I'm building a project YZF1070
Basement is done now, 850 finished and gone...
Gotta get the new siding up on the house.
Fixing the FZ1 up, cleaning up garage and then I might even begin

Michael, I'm a bit in love with this one! Im hoping to have some mad fun on it!
JasonL who gets on here occasionally was over on the weekend to watch a bit of the F1.... he now has motocross eyes!
Another mate has just registered a KTM 250 two-stroke. The adventure touring-weekend away gig is definitely a growing thing!
Looking forward to it!

Re: New family member
I've been thinking about 2 strokes!
The ATK 700 intimidator engines are available to purchase stand alone from ATK in the USA.
700cc 78 rwhp. Chain and kick start on the same side as the Husaberg 501 so a relatively easy fit up?
The 501 engine makes 52 hp, so that will probably be enough to get myself into trouble on! Dunno yet, engine parts are hard to find for the Husaberg.

Yes, I would say 52hp would be plenty enough before you need get into a 700cc 2 stroke. Make sure you're more than used to the Husaberg's power and handling before you go up in machine as it's quite the starting off point for anyone, dirt and street are quite two different kinds of riding. Can't says I know what your experience in the dirt is, but your Husaberg is not a starter machine for the dirt at all. Although if/when you are looking for more, I'd say look into the CR500, I know of a company or two who's been producing knock off powerplants even after Honda stopped producing them, I think even Honda still made the engine for sale a while after the bike was done too. Not that I'm a Honda salesman either, but you can't argue with their reliability and definitely not 97hp for a bit more than 200lbs of machine. Frankly, I'd love to see all of the 2smokers sizes come back to life, in all brands.

Re: New family member
Well the Husaberg is gone. However, I got distracted...again. This one is gonna be like a motorcycle with wings.
Single seat AeroPup. It's a little bush plane!
It came with a fresh zero hour BMW1200S motor (120hp) and a prop reduction drive. They perform really well with 80hp!
These are incredibly strong, +6 -4 gs, so aerobatics won't be out of the question.
One that is finished:

man, I thought Graham's H1R frame looked scary sketchy. Yiches!! I guess it has to get off the ground in order to fly though..

Re: New family member
haha. it's deceiving. These are a very strong little aircraft.
They are rated at +6 -4 g's In the positive that means the airframe will take 2 tons of downward pressure. At 6 g's my body weighs 6 times it's static weight (which is a bit these days )
I'll be able to enjoy entry level competition aerobatics

Re: New family member
to put that into perspective for me Ralph, the prop race planes that do the slalom runs at over 300mph or something like that, how many G's are they rated for?

Re: New family member
what I wouldn't give to just even be a second pickin' my nose in one of those -8, +8 two seaters. Yeah, that's a tough little bugger seeings how it's -G rating is even higher than normal
