EXUP Worldwide was born from the ashes of the original EXUP Brotherhood – the definitive forum for all those who have interest in Yamaha FZ, FZR, and YZF motorcycles.
true that,
But before you ever get to warp speed, you've still gotta "mount" it, if you know what I mean. *nudge*nudge* wink

Big miles, big bike, and they don't come much bigger than a busa
have a friend in New Zealand (Kiwi 60) who rides a sv1000 and loves it, some small mods have turned it into a very handy steed
With your riding silver, the busa will be comfy, keep you protected from the elements better than an SV, and eat up the miles, in time you will wonder how you ever did it on the FZR for so long
good luck with your decisions

My cousin has a ZZR1200. I think it is around an 02. Nice bike, comfy with good wind protection. I would compile a list of acceptable models, and start looking to see what is for sale. If you still like the YZF take it to a shop and have them figure it out. That is why there are pros out there, to help when we give up.
There is always free cheese in a mouse trap.

I think Jim,
I'd ride a ZX-12 or a 14 first. The 12 was a bike I was lookin' at the same time I was hunting around and got the FZR instead.
I guess, I'll try a busa (just for you Jim) one day but......

not to advocate zuki, but it may be worth checkin out the newer katana 750's, surprisingly very nice bikes and they supposed to be above and beyond in terms of longevity.
Agreed that money in the bank is a very good thing and I'm not totally out from under the YZF yet. As you know, it's one sweet ride. I have new pilot jets, a new float and some screws on order. I should be getting my bonus at the end of March, the weather should be breaking then and I have some vacation coming. I'm going to give it one more "college try" and if no joy then there will be a trio of Yamaha's for sale. The XS750, the FZR1KD and the YZF1000RJ. Combined with my tax and bonus checks, I could have as much as $7k to put down on a bike. Or possibly split it to put $3500 on a car and $3500 on a bike. Of course if I get the bike working right then I'll have enough to buy one of those billet clutches that I hear some machinist in Bremerton, Washington is making.

If you're kicking the idea around about a SV why not consider a Bandit? I'd love to take the new 1250s out for a spin. From what I've heard from the others they're loving them.
I understand your dilema about selling the bike. I don't want to part with the FZR but I'm going to have to sink a lot of time & money into it to get it running the way it should. That's what's nice about having the Bandit. Can still ride and work on the FZR at my leisure (and as money allows).
Nate 1987 FZR1000 (Still with fairings!) 2003 Bandit 1200S (It didn't come with fairings!)
I dunno about the Bandit. Looks to be a good bike but just not something that tickles my fancy. Kinda reminds me of a Honda. Good and dependable but lacking character (whatever that is !). For now I have the YZF working again and I'm willing to wait a little bit to see if the rumors of Suzuki coming out with a new version are true. The other bike I was kinda ogling was the BMW F800ST which has an parallel-twin Rotax motor and a decent set of features (read "Heated handgrips !). Unfortunately while BMW's engineers are known for pretty good, durable machines, their styling department is pathetic. The fairing reminds me of one of Vetters less than successful units. Also $11,K for a bike, even a Beemer, is a pretty steep investment. And for another $1,K I can get a brand new 'busa.
11K? you're griping about 11K John? Care to take a stab at any going litre bike up here in Canadeh? The ABSOLUTE Cheapest you'd find a new machine for would be 14,500 and most are at 15,500 so deal time they'll knock a grand off. Beemers are well over 20 and even into 30K up here. Hell, the new 1098 is 20K and the 999's were 25. One of the beemers I'd actually like to own the K1200S, I think once all the taxes and crap are added on, it's pushin pretty close to 30, and the R1200S 25-28, well equipped I think? Sorry, been a while since I've been in that shop, so I maybe wrong 'bout the R, but the K is definitely on.
Sorry but, until you guys have had to pay Canadian, and England is even worse, prices, I dunnoknow if you're allowed to complain about the "how much."
Canadian Busa Price, $15,099.
You should look into the Canadian ONLY spec 1250Bandit, comes with ABS, full fairing, all the way down, racks and nice colour matched hard bags. Very tasty looking machine. With a few quick little fixes to uncork all the HP, these machines would DEFINITELY loose that limited to 100HP, no soul Honda feeling dude.

I may be actually going down to AZ to pick up a somewhat functioning but torn all down to pieces 94 1000. Hopefully, if it all works out, it'll be not much more than $800. Or, should I be payin' waaaaaaaayyyy less. Specially as there's no way of actually knowing whether or not it actually friggen works???

When something doesn't have a motor in it at all and it's a couple of dudes who don't know much 'bout putting it back together took it apart, does that qualify as a basket case. Even though the claim is that it did work well a few months before they took it apart?

id say go for it man, $800 for a $2000 bike is a steal if it doesnt require to terribly much labor and assuming everythings there re assembling isnt to bad!
