It's starting to look like something John - isn't it different to be able to stand inside and get a feel for it though?
That's really going to be a lot bigger, I can sort of get a sense of scale with the 2nd floor in place.
Good stuff :D

Any one have ideas on a good floor underlayment ?

Heres the scenario...I like it quiet and I am obsessed with eliminating noise. Maybe some of this comes from working 3rd shift.

Right now the framers have a 1" thick tounge and groove flooring to which they applied GE floor adhesive to each joist.

I want more. I think I want more.

Is there anything wrong with me laying another layer of plywood down ? To which I would use the adhesive again AND SCREW every 6" around the edges and 12" thereafter

I know this sounds strange to some...and to others probably right on.

I want rigidity in case I have 12-15 poeple jumping up and down in my dining room area. One never knows.

I have also found some acoustical solutions..like this...

any opinions ?

The vinyl siding is to be installed tomorrow - but before they did that I had a couple things I wanted done in tandem

the 2nd floor kitchen needed a dormer to allow the install of a new outside facing window

I installed the 1st floor windows and tyvek wrap myself last week - and the siding crew installed the windows on the 2nd floor yesterday

I need to pick up 3 windows - two are for the 3rd floor loft - the windows I received were too big to easily install - And I need to pick up another casemment window for my 2nd floor laundry room-to-be

That's looking pretty darn good. You look to be about doubling your floorspace?

physically I am more than doubling the size of the existing house

but to me and my family I am quadrupling the size - as my family lives in the bottom apartment and I rent out the upstairs

Currently I have 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, kitchen and living room with office space in half the finished cellar

Some day in the future I will have 3 bedrooms, 2 bath, 1 kitchen, 1 living room, 1 family room, 1 dining room, 1 sun room, 1 playroom

holy frijoles....how the heck am I gonna pay for heat this winter ? WOW!

Then the existing apt upstairs that I rent out will have the option of the 3rd floor loft 35x14 feet - the existing apt is seen in the pics where the dormer was added to the kitchen (the exterior roof of the old house)

John,

The project is coming along real well. Here's a faucet you can buy to add that special touch to the new bathrooms. The kids will love it. It may take some time for the wife to appreciate it though.

The killer smiley in this case is money. The faucets are $699.00 Image

The exterior weather tight shell portion of the project is complete as of 07/03/06.

I debated on doing the deck myself for the side stair way and the 1st floor deck - but contracted it out since I would have found it tough to be 12-14 feet in the air by myself.

ouch again

Post by jjs777 »

the other evening...corey brought me some food from the grill

after working on the house all day I planned to sit on the back deck and relax

while walking on the 2x10 up to the deck...oops

the plank went out from under me when I was almost at the top

I fell back and landed half on my back and half on my side - on the tarmac (not on the dirt as the pics above would suggest)

once on the ground then a 6x6 post anchor (solid metal) fell on my face

I ended up falling about 5-6 feet

lots of red stuff everywhere

when to the ER and....

fractured vertabrae (tail bone somewhere)

punctured lung

and stitches across the bridge of my nose and above my eye

I spent nearly 6 hours in the er

all kinds of tests

I'm home now and on percosets (spelling?)

lots of pain

lesson to all...take the extra time to make sure things are safe when working around the house

the board that I was walking up had been fine...it was wedged against lumber on the ground

but as the lumber was depleted...so went my secured footing and off I went

Wow John, whatareyoutryingtodo?

Make me worry, no doubt.....Man, at least your around to write the foot-note.

Getting busted up is no fun though, so here's to you getting back to form quickly..

I really do like the progress so far - even with a set-back it's looking very nice.

Get well soon bro.

Stairs to 1st and 2nd floors

Post by jjs777 »

Side stairs to 2nd floor are floating - they are not attached to house except at the top / to the old portion of the house - this keeps noise down on the side wall of the new portion of the addition.
