What's it bolted into there in the picture? If it matches up to your loom you could give it a try? it would give you a higher limiter and I would guess probably a slightly different ignition timing curve as well.
Hows the owner find it? That will probably answer the question regarding performance/operation?
You might be better with a ecu suited to your thou, as you wouldn't really want to be running a stock FZR1000 engine at the same revs as a short stroke OW-YZF750. My gut feeling would be to stick with a 1000 ecu as advance curves etc are set within the rpm range an engine with a heavy crankshaft etc needs to run. You may experience some short term gain with it though And then BANG... lol.
