YEC YZF750 Kit Cams... Insights sought!

Post by spook »

I'm interested as to why Yamaha went away from using/supplying cams for the inlet side of the YZF750? I think it was from 94 onwards only the exhaust cams in kit.

The early kit inlet cams had a profile with far more duration than oem.

Any technical insight at all would be appreciated. Cheers,

spook, i thought yamaha supplied both sides in the later kits to the "a-spec" customers. mike walsh here on the board has commented on this a few times and he is of the belief that the kit cam available in 94 wasn't worth the effort.

i can't comment about specs as i am still learning about lift/duration performance advantages/disadvantages.

Hoolie, what do you mean by a-spec?

Also has anyone seen YEC cams with a full circle cam chain sprocket boss-attachment flange? I'm actually not sure if they are OW or YZF.

yec released their "customer-spec" items to anyone that wanted to buy them for their track bikes. their "a-spec" or "a-kit" items were only available to the factory teams or the teams running a satellite bike with factory support. they were the really cool things that were more prototype than production race parts. i think i might have an old article somewhere in the archives that talks BRIEFLY about these items in a piece about the 1996 WSB bike.

Here is what I mean regarding the full circle drive sprocket boss, as compared to the conventional type of attachment on the kit cam on the left. I think the holes are drilled and tapped at varying degrees to facilitate cam timing changes.

If you like Hoolie. The cams in question are stated to be OW01, but info regarding the inlet cams and their benifits/short-falls would probasbly be better answered amongst YZF folk

Like the new thingies! :wtf:

Bump...lol! Anyone?

The early kit inlet cams had a profile with far more duration than oem. The only thing I have heard is there was no discernible difference in performance, so inlet remained as oem

Any technical insight at all would be appreciated. Cheers,

Well this is what I purchased. I'm going to do a 360 degree at 5 degree increment lift map of each cam. Hopefully I will end up with a picture of lift v duration in relation to degrees of rotation in a 360 degree wave form. I'll then do the same for the FZ to YZF series of oem cams, and overlap. I've got no idea what I'm doing, but it keeps me amused.
