Yesterday Duke22 and I headed down to one of the local tracks to watch some racing.
It was ok but I can't have been much in the mood, so we shot through early and went and had a look at a local airshow.

The main drawcard was the only flying De Havalland Mosquito in the world that have just had a total rebuild and recieved it's airworthyness certificate this week.

There were a lot of other planes including a P40 Kittyhawk, P51 Mustang, Spitfire replica and a Vampire jet.

After enjoying the low level fly pasts and watching these magnificent planes being put through their paces, including aerobatics, I decided to catch a few video shots on my iphone in the hope that they would turn out ok, they're not long and there is no zoom, but put them onto full screen and turn the volume up and you'll get the idea, it was and awesone sight and sound!!!!!!

Unfortunatley the Spitfire replica had to make a belly landing while retining to it's home airport due to an undercarrage malfunction later in the day, but the pilot put it down easy and walked away

One of my grandfathers good friends was a Mosquito pilot in the war, and he gave me a poster schematic of the Mk IV. Amazing plane. Merlin 21 engines on a smaller plane like that were overkill, but the stealth nature of it's construction, and it's combined payload and speed capacity allowed it to perform some really important roles. He described the hairiest flights he flew as the ones where they were dropping flares for the big bombers to follow in to the targets. Flying low, fast, and into the heart of it, meant some pretty intense flying. Nobody I know personifies brave to the same degree as these guys, in my mind.
