official confirmation

Post by Big Jon »

A cross plane triple liter BIKE will be on display at next years Intermot show.

Personally I'm interested to see how much different the engine will be from the current triple 1000 they have, or how much will they "borrow" from the existing tech?

Try this article Kiwi...
Yes I've seen that one, but was wondering if Jon was aware of another model that we haven't seen here :D

The last one we had was the XS850 (and I really want one one day for another cafe racer project I've got in mind!!!)

Not much use for a snowmobile in NZ :D they have been using a triple sourced from 3/4 of the FJR to make almost 1100cc for a number of years in the Nytro sled lineup. Turbo guys are seeing 240hp easily. My question is how much of this will transfer over? If any.

Damn!

Sled engine's have changed SSoooooooo much over the years. Was watchin' a show a while back, guy had an old school sled, he was able to do an 'ENGINE' swap out in the cold of Alaska with in twenty minutes. Four bolts and the engine only weighed 70 pounds, I love my four strokes but sure miss the simplicity of the blue smokers. Too bad the V-Due engine never was successful as hoped.

That was when you did it enough times to get down to twenty minutes to swap, now you change the oil every 4000kms, or upon spring storage, the oil filter every 20,000 and a valve adjustment every 40,000. After a couple valve adjustments you may need to swap the motor as it will be getting a little tired.

And now the other companies are having to perfect the clean burn 2 stroke or switch to 4, the emissions standards that will be applied in a couple years will require one or the other for sleds, and it's been 10 years since Yamaha put an R1 engine between the skis and track already.

The computer power Bimota required is there now, certainly not 15 years ago. It could a been so sweet as a carb'd bike. I'd still give a left testicle to own a V-Due. (I can afford to lose one  )

Not up this end of the country, but down south it's a bit different

Yamaha rep informed me that they are now going to disregard the traditional model releases before and at the bike shows and industry expo's. There will be something in the neighbourhood of 6 all new models (bikes, sleds, or atv's he wouldn't specify) in the next 3 years. The brand new Bolt motorbike and Viper sled notwithstanding. He is very excited about the immediate future and what is coming down the pipe.

Cat's out of the bag, the brand new 2014 FZ-09 will be for sale in Canada for $9k, it will be known in other markets as the MT-09, good looking bike, 850-ish cc's, let's see what else is coming!
