Custom Radiators 88 FZR 750-1000

Hi, Any of you interested in custom made radiators for the 86-88 FZR 750 - 1000? I'm thinking same mounting points, outlet positions, same plan size, with a deeper core. Provision for fan as per oem. No mounting for the plastic grill at the front. Forced to look at this because they are unavailable, and an odd configuration. I expect price to be reasonable.

In the future I will do the same for the OW01, as I will need a few for myself.

Spook,
What type are you thinking for the OW01? OEM or like a YEC one piece setup with ram air duct?

I'll give you an idea in a week when the samples arrive. Oem would be the easiest, I was thinking of a triangular chin rad that matches and bolts up to the upper. The rad that is on it's way is a custom fab job that is deeper, and has a thicker core. I would have to get my hands on a kit rad to have any hope of reproducing one. With historic racing as big as it is there is still scope for the OW's and others homologation specials development

Yeah, it's booming over here too, but OW's are very thin on the ground.

I think there would be a market everywhere for a OW style radiator (triangular) designed to fit the Genesis 750 /1000 and to attach to a EXUP style water cooler oil filter fitting and do away with the oil cooler. I know of 4 people over here who would be keen on them.

I'm going to do the same thing, machine down the crankcase boss and fit a cooler. easy on the FZ750 as there are no oil cooler lines, on the FZR I'm going to make up a short solid hose that loops over the filter so that the pump and sump don't need replacing. The problem with the Genesis FZR is the outlets on most radiators get in the way. And also the front of the motor. With the oil cooler gone it is possible to to fit in a slightly deeper radiator before you come in contact with the engine. That said if you space out the radiator 1 cm and the radiator outlet hoses are orientated properly you can go deeper. It depends also on how much the head angle has been pulled back. With standard rake, you could probably go a fair bit deeper.

One thing about these engines, is they don't get hot? I always found the standard radiator more than adequetly kept the engine cool. So anything larger imo would be just adding weight.

Yeah, gotta agree with you there spook.

I be getting duke22 around on the weekend so we can get the motor back in the FZR frame and then I'll be fitting up the CB600 radiator, it'll be interesting to see how it all works.

I actually ended up ordering a CB1300 rad. 43cm x 21cm, (standard 88 fzr 47cm x 19 cm) possibly a little larger than the 600 rad? Searched for hours to find it, and hope it works out.

I will have some made for the genesis to suit the oem space, (larger capacity) as I reckon there will be a few people wanting them as we do.

Out of curiousity, are RC30's just as thin as the OW's, I would assume so as they were about as rare as the Yamaha due to their outlandish prices. What'd be really trick would be for someone to be racing an NR750, now that would be cool!

Thinner being a V4. but not prettier! The NR pistons might be hard to find!

I meant thinner as in, not nearly as many RC30's and OW01's racing opposed to GSXR's and ZX-7's
