87/88 forks compared to 89/90 forks - Need you 89/90s help

Post by orionburn »

Well, the front fenders I picked up off of Ebay are not the best. Running out of time and have decided to break down and buy a new fender. Yes the ones I have are repairable, but with all the time I've put into getting this thing repainted I want something that will last. Figure they will eventually break with the stress fractures being where they are.

I would really like to go to a 1 piece fender (the 87/88s are two pieces). They went to a 1 piece starting in 89. Now, the forks look VERY similar between 87/88 and 89/90 (before the USD forks came out). The part numbers are different, but dammit they look exactly the same.

So my question is if a 89/90 fender will fit on my 87. Basically I just need to know some dimensions of the fender mounting holes on a 89/90 such as length/width between the holes.

I need to get a fender ordered by the end of this week, so if anybody can help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks much guys <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... Who cares...I got new ones!!!

amigo, <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... Waving.gif ALT=":hi">
the distance between the fork legs ( center left hole to centre right ) is 115mm.
The distance between the holes on each fork leg is 50mm.
These are for an '89 front end. If you measure yours and they are different, then it's a different part.
I can't imagine they are different tho, almost everything on the front end is inter-changeable.
hope this helps........

Nate, trying the swap and the '89-'90 fender mount points on the forks are narrower than our Genesis forks. Bottom line, it ain't gonna work unless you fab some extensions. Notice that the '89 mount points stick out! Here are some pics. Blue='88/White='89.

Freelance Bodyman

I be ridin the Cali Bay Area '88 & '89 FZR1K BOTH ARE ONLY HALF NAKED NOW!!!
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... yfzr600 at: 4/12/05 7:09 pm
