Why me?

Post by orionburn »

I'm the type of person that usually all the weird crap happens to...

So, I'm riding into work today and it was a little chilly. I've found out that putting your hand down between the fairing and block makes a nice little hand warmer. Anyhoot...I warm up my left hand and go to slide my right hand down to warm it up (ok...this is starting to sound like a letter to "dear penthouse)...anyways...about then is when I notice that my right side fairing is completely gone. I have no clue as to when it came off. Yesterday was pretty windy and all...but I can't believe that I didn't notice it go flying off.

Needless to say I think I'll be retracing my steps today and see if I can find it alongside the road somewhere.

Somebody tell me I'm not the only one that crap like this happens to...
It's not that I'm gay...I'm just more interested in curves on a road than I am a woman...

As in the whole right lower side is gone? That is a large peice of realestate to just come off. Looks like 7 bolts had to have come loose. Sure that it wasn't pilfered?

And no you are not the only one that strange sh*t happens to. As much as I'd like to tell you that you are the only one, alas, you are not.

Tim
We're all here because we aren't all there.

Well, it was missing a few bolts. The guy I had bought the bike from seemed to have replaced nuts & bolts with whatever was laying around in the kitchen drawer. I had noticed that one bolt had come off where the lower fairing attaches to the upper. Still...for that thing to go flying off like that and to go unnoticed is mind boggling. Can't imagine somebody would have stolen in. It wasn't in the best shape to begin with anyways.

Unless it's a secret plot from the folks at Targa trying to make me buy parts from them <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:">
It's not that I'm gay...I'm just more interested in curves on a road than I am a woman...

Probably a good thing it did come off....teaching my ex-g/f how to ride before taking the ABATE class and she dumped it. Luckily no damage...
It's not that I'm gay...I'm just more interested in curves on a road than I am a woman...

Hey Orion, Ck those lower fasteners. Those little rubber plugs that go into the lower hangers? Put 'em in with the flange side to the fairing, then tighten 'em up. They might look at first like they go in the other way, but not so. If you already know this, please disreguard this public service announcement. Whatever it takes to keep the plastic on, Yo?

My left mirror came off now....again was windy as hell outside. I was just re-reading this because it was brought up in a different thread. Always good for a laugh. Its just that I now have a question or two.
Did you ever find your missing fairing? I know you are looking for more plastics from the other thread. Just curious if you ever found it, or some of it.
Why would you teach your "EX-g/f" how to ride? and on a 1000 no less? (No offense)

Tim

<img src="http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung030 ...
Dir. of Entertainment (eddieandthecrusiersmc.com).

Are you still looking for a right Fairing? I saw one at a local shop, wanted $125 for it. Was for an 88 but I don't recall the color. Looked in fair shape. I can investigate further if you'd like.

Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers

Yup

Post by orionburn »

Yes I did...just hadn't had a chance to write back yet. I was looking at the left side fairing today, and it's pretty much worthless. It's going to take an extensive amount of body work to salvage it. I'm probably going to hold out and try and find a set. Thanks for looking out for me though. Appreciate it!!!

Nate

"I have come here to chew bubble-gum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubble-gum."
