Frustrating day on the Dyno
Frustrating day on the Dyno
Had the old exup on the dyno today to try and get the mapping close with Megaquirt ECU, after several hours of messing about we had it nearly right but it was still a touch lean on boost. Tried editing the fuel table with the live mapping function and nothing happened tried again and the fueling went to crap and was really rich. If I had some brains I would have saved the "good" map but in the excitement I forgot and no matter what we tried the fueling would not change using the live map function, in the end out of desperation I manually edited the VE table numbers and sent them to the ECU and it worked <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... ananna.gif ALT=":banana">
It is a real shame we wasted to much time trying to get back to where we were and ran out of time for fine tuning meaning I still have plenty of dataloging to do out on the road and some home tweaking to do but at least the fueling is close for wide open throttle operation.

Got some nice numbers though <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... ananna.gif ALT=":banana">

Mark

Re: Frustrating day on the Dyno
Poor old girl had to put up with 50 full power runs on the dyno today and she hung together very well considering all the abuse dished out. It looks like the stock crank and rods are pretty strong

Mark

Re: Frustrating day on the Dyno
Wow. Now that is impressive Mark! That is going to be something to hold onto from about 4500 to 7K.
Wow again! 200 horsepressures at 7000! Damn!
Nice payoff for all that work I'm sure, good show M8!
Genisx1AtYahooeyDotCommaMomma

Re: Frustrating day on the Dyno
It is not quite that fast I'm afraid, top line is torque and bhp is around 135 at 7000rpm. I can't wait to finish the mapping now.

Mark

Re: Frustrating day on the Dyno
Ahhhh Ok, I must be color blind anymore . Hey can you just multiply by the reciprical in mapping and flip the lines that way?
Still, it's an impressive torque curve.
Genisx1AtYahooeyDotCommaMomma

Re: Frustrating day on the Dyno
I hear what you're saying but the results don't look very frustrating from here!!!

What's it like in the twisties, I mean, does the turbo lag sufficiently to make getting on and off the throttle smoothly a tricky business?

That's always been my worry (that and burning up head-gaskets) with turbos.

Would you be thinking about marketing a complete kit to EXUP owners when you've got it all sorted? Earn back some of the dosh (and time/effort) you put into it? Or are you gonna keep it all to yourself?<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... e_poke.gif ALT=":poke">

My hat off to you whichever route you take for your smarts and perserverence.

John<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... iker_3.gif ALT=":riding">

Re: Frustrating day on the Dyno
Turbo lag is not an issue really as it's running a small turbo that makes boost from just under 4000 rpm all the way to the limiter. The boost comes on very very smoothly with no sudden power jumps so it is dead easy to roll on a bit more power mid corner. As for frustration..............I still have plenty, the load the dyno operator put on the bike was more than it will ever see on the road and unless I'm towing a heavy car up a steep hill the fueling in real world riding situations is still not right, also my fuel table that was initially generated in "MegaTune" has most of the load/inlet pressure sites for off boost situations leaving only 3 sites out of 12 for tuning under boost. It will need a new map with more boost sites and less off boost sites to make tuning on boost less grief.
Complete turbo exup kit ?
I will give out all the hard earned info for FREE but I'm not crazy enough to do any more fabrication and machining as the cost would be silly for amount of hours needed.

GSXR throttle bodies are not too hard to fit.
Pic of stock exup inlet with adaptor ring fitted and some port blending done.

GSXR rubbers on modified inlets

bodies in place

Above pic shows the water temp sensor fitted to the thermostat housing and some wireing, I made a billet fuel rail at work because I have the machines available but it would be easy enough to do with plumbing fittings and copper tube.
I messed around with blowing through carbs for nearly 3 years and in the end turned to MegaSquirt out of desperation and really wish I had gone straight to EFI as it is 100 times better than messing around with endless jet combinations.
Turbo manifold
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/ ...
