Well I knew I'd lose my virginity sooner or later. Was heading back home from a friends house through town the other day. The truck in front of me started riding his brakes. Figured he was going to make a left hand turn without using his signals so I move over into the right lane and give it a little gas to get around the guy. As soon as I got in front of the truck I realized why he was riding his brakes. Bike cop was sitting near the intersection. Damn says I <img src=

Just told him I wasn't paying attention to how fast I was going (which I wasn't). Needless to say I was damn surprised when he came back and gave me a warning only. He was cool about it and just told me to pay attention better since most cagers don't look out for us. Told him thanks, put the gear back on and headed (slowly) home.

So fess up fellers...what was the reason(s) behind the first time you got stopped? Fortunately I have not been pulled over on the bike. I have received speeding tickets in the cars but not on the bike (at least in the car I'm only going 15 MPH over the speed limit). I have had some close calls on the bike but the bike is easier to drop the speed quickly; plus it's a smaller radar target (you can drop behind a larger car/truck and use it as a shield while slowing down). In the Tucson area the police cars generally will not give chase to a motorcycle. They will either forget it (if you crash you're the only one getting hurt anyway) or radio ahead to another unit if one is in the area. If you can circumvent the unit they radioed you can cruise home. I don't advocate this type of diversion but if you're going twice the posted speed limit the ticket is going to be expensive. All bets are off if it's a motorcycle cop since they are able to give chase.
When I ride Mt Lemmon I go earlier on Sunday morning when there is no traffic and no police. Reduces the probability of getting a speeding ticket.

Here's a guy on a Yamaha R1 that's lucky he didn't get a speeding ticket ...

<a href="

I guess I'll fess up to my favorite one.

T'was a long time ago in a land far, far, away (back in Georgia). Was the day after Thanksgiving (US Holiday) and I got up early and washed the bike. Called a buddy and we were off to the park to throw Frisbee. I was headed over to his house when I got behind a guy going slow. I mean really slow. Slow as, doing 20 in a 35. So, I took a chance and passed him through a series of esses. Came around the last one, which was longer than the rest, and there sits the MAN himself, radar and all. He puts it into gear and loads the brakes thinking I'm going to run. Nope, I just pull in beside him and stop, get out my license and insurance and wait. Takes him a second to realize that I stopped. So he comes over and tells me to step away from the bike and put my hands on the trunk. A little odd I think. He pats me down, cuffs me and puts me in the back of the patrol car. Now I'm thinking this is really odd. He looks the bike over, gets all my stuff together and gets in the front. I ask, "Why am I handcuffed and sitting back here?" He says, "Well, lets see.... I clocked you doing 77 in a 35, passing on a double yellow, passing in a turn, on a hill, through a residential area. AND you smell of alcohol. But you had good form. So you're going to Jail. Any more questions?"

Wow! Ummm... no.

I ask him if he can leave my bike there so my buddy can come and get it. I don't want a wrecker coming to get it. I have seen how they treat bikes. Nope he says, he'll be here in about 5 minutes. A flat bead pulls up and the guy takes the keys and drives it up on the truck and straps it down all nice and good. Well I feel better about that, but that's about it.

So off we go to the police station where I proceed to take a breathalyzer test. Nothing. He has me take it again. Nothing. As we are sitting there, at the police station, he asks me if I can post bail, have some one to pick me up, and all that. I assure him I can and I do. I asked if I could call them and have them come down in a couple of hours to get me, since it was at least 30 miles to the jail. He sits there for a minute and thinks about it, then goes back to writing out my tickets (plural, as in many). I'm sitting there looking at him and then the phone, back and forth. He asks again about my friend coming to get me. I explain again. He then tears up all of the tickets and writes me one, and tells me to call my friend to pick me up at the station where I'm at. The ticket was for reckless driving. I ask him about the change of heart on taking me to jail. He doen't comit to any answer, so I ask if it is beacuse he is about to get off in 30 minutes and that would mean tons of paperwork at the end of the shift. The drive out there and back and it is a holiday weekend. He says "Yep."

When I went to pick the bike up at the impound yard, they showed me to my bike, backed into a garage, in the back, off to the side, covered up. The driver was there actually just covering it up. Tells me he likes my bike and wanted to be sure nothing happened to it till I came and got it.

I had to appear in court for this one, I couldn't just pay the fine. So I'm walking into the courthouse and see a riding buddy there. I ask why he's there and it's to pay a ticket too. 85 in a 40. We go in and sit down next to 2 other motorcyclists. Questions abound, and their tickets are for 96 in a 55 and 115 in a 65. Out of the four of us, mine was called first. I plead guilty and was fined $140; I smiled and said "Thank You, Sir."

I talked to my buddy about 2 weeks later. His fine was $370 and the others were between $750-$1000. Apparently the Judge got pissed seeing all these bikers doubling the speed limit. Glad I got to go first.

In Georgia, Reckless Driving only carries 4 points vs. the 16 points I would have gotten for each of the tickets that he HAD written but threw away. At 15 points and they suspend your license for a year.

<img src="

All the cameras here in Cape Town take pictures from the front, the only time you get caught is with the old lines across the road where the cop runs out into the road to stop you... and there are very few of those (Cops and lines ).

My first fine happened while I was riding my old CB750F with a girlfriend on the back. I was giving her a lift home and noticed a cop bike shadowing me one block down. I wasn't wearing a helmet and didn't even have a licence. As I pull away from her house I see the cop waiting for me, motioning for me to pull over. Asks for my licence... Oops tell hime I don't have one... What can I say, I'm terminally honest. Shakes his head and hands me a fine for R300 ($50). Tells me that he's going to ride away now and what I do after he's gone is my own problem...

I lost my virginity on my '91 YSR50! 16 and my first day with a permit and I had to go out! In California, a permit allows you to only ride during the day, no passengers, and not to go on the highway. There I was up in the Berkeley hills. Doin my stuff and dragging the pegs. As I come around a s bend, I see 5 bikes on the side of the road and a bike cop writing tickets. He motions for me to pull over and I do. While I'm waitin for my turn, he motions 4 other riders to pull over! Ten bikes lined up the side of the road is not a good thing! So my turn comes around and he asks for my license, registration, and insurance. I give him my permit and other stuff. He looks at the permit and it has a issue date of that day! Helooks at me smiles and says, "Wait til you get a bigger bike!" and hands me my stuff and lets me go! In California, if you get a moving citation with a permit, you automatically lose your endorsement for a year! Ahhhh sweet memories<img src=

Stories from Hwy 2........
Way back in '80 something on my way to eastern Washington with a couple friends, all riding, me on my '79 KZ1000.............
On the eastern side of Stevens Pass the road turns into a windy ribbon of moderate to high speed turns, beautifull scenery being in a canyon as it is, and just perfect conditions for wicking up the throttle a bit on a warm spring day.
So we did, not to an insane degree - traffic was light, and we all took it easy in places to look like we were playing nice.
Coming out of the canyon and into the Wenatchee valley, the road straightens out a bit and gets boring for a while. There we see a string of Staters all lined up. They pull us all over, say we've been tracked and timed by aircraft patrols, and everyone gets a speeding ticket, plus whatever other chicken sh*t they can add on - for no bike endorsment etc. Court is in Wenatchee, a 100+ miles from where any of us live. They know that. We all pay.

Skip ahead to 2000 or so, I'm riding with a friend and his bike club "biohazard", I'm on the FZR. There are some nice bikes and good riders in this crowd. We do the mountain hiway loop which returns westbound on the same hiway 2 as described above. This ride is deathwishabandonallhopeofsurvivaldamnthetorpedosFAST.
There is much more traffic than before, and all the cagers have cell phones. We do long strings of howling eight bike passes, multiple cars and campers at a time. I'm not feeling good about this, but mob mentality sets in. We get to our lunch stop an hour early. There is also a ton of other bike traffic this particular day, as a track day is in session in Spokane clear across the state.
We are on the east side back stretch the first time we get pulled over as a group, we claim to have been mistaken for another group of riders, and since we weren't caught at speed we get off. Back to hiway 2 and home, everyone opens it up again - same sh*t - ton plus, insane passes, plenty off pissed off cagers. We get pulled over again on the west side of the pass, another stater, and he's pissed.
He's been collecting called in driver reports and has bike plate #'s and rider descriptions. Some drivers pull up and point us out as they pass. He checks us up one side and down the other - ID's, regs, everything. After a thorough tongue lashing, he confronts the reality that even though he could arrest us all and impound our bikes right there, It will take him deep into overtime to do so. We also hadn't caused any real harm or damage (reports are that some other riders did).
He invites us not to return to his jurisdiction, and it is implied that any further mis'behavin WILL BE DEALT WITH AGRESSIVLEY. We all believe him. And he lets us go! Not one single ticket.
Whatever happened to justice?
(PS - I have not been back to find out, at least on the bike).

<img src=

the first time i got pulled was about 4 years ago. it was ahot sunny day (we dont get many in the uk) so i decided 2 go out for a run on my bike. at the time i had a zx9r with a custom paint job yellow + purple +all ally polished looked a lot better than what it performed! anyway headed for a nice stretch of road that i regualy ride, its a long moorland road with long open straights + nicely banked corners. on the approach to said road theirs a roundabout.i was mid round about banked over when a jet black honda blackbird+ rider in a black 2 piece +white helmet came round the outside ov me and on to said road, which as u can imagine suprised me + put me off my line. so as i was shouting u cheeky b*stard 2 my self in my lid i decided2 give chase. it didnt take long 2 catch + pass him, iwas doing about95 when i passed him in a 40 zone.i had just got on the said road + i could still see the blackbird in my mirror so i opened it right up flatout on the straight then draging the pegs in the twistys about 2 mins had passed + with the blackbird a distant memory +my heart was about to burst through the sheer lunacy of my rideing i decided to pull up, so i pulled over , took my lid off + sparked up a smoke. just then the honda came over the brow ov the hill +pulled in behind me. this stocky bloke jumped straight off the honda + started looking round the bike, he said f**k me thats fast what is it? itold him what it was + about all the extras...dyno k+n etc.etc. he was really impressed we talked about his pass on me + mine on him. this went on for a minute or 2 then he said.. u know im a copper dont u!!!! well my arse nearly fell out. istarted looking at the honda + sure enough under closer inspection i could see the 2 blue lights hidden in the fairing.i looked at him + said oh dear, to which he replyed oh dear indeed, i know the suns out son but for f**ks sake slow down. he got back on his bike + left. i waited for about 5 minutes then carried on my journey at a slower pace i might add.<img src=

Talk about getting off easy ... this guy was either lucky or had a good lawyer.

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. -- Speeding is not necessarily reckless, even at 128 mph, a judge ruled in the case of a motorcyclist who tried to flee from state troopers.
With some reluctance, County Judge John Steinheider ruled last week that Jacob H. Carman, 20, was not guilty of reckless driving on Sept. 5, when he was spotted by a trooper who then chased him at the top speed of his cruiser's odometer -- 128 mph.
"As much as it pains me to do it, speed and speed alone is not sufficient to establish reckless driving," the judge told Carman on Friday. "If you had had a passenger, there would be no question of conviction. If there had been other cars on the roadway, if you would've went into the wrong lane or anything, I would have convicted you."
Otoe County prosecutor David Partsch acknowledged that Carman could have been charged with speeding but, "We felt that the manner in which he was operating the motorcycle was reckless."
Carman didn't get off entirely. He was fined $300 for expired tags and other violations.
