How come Ducati recomends a 190mm tire on their 998 (I think) with a 5.5 inch wheel , but Dunlop recomends a 6 inch wheel for the 190mm tire?

They probably specify a specific brand/model of tire that is made to fit a 5.5 rim.

According to the Dunlop fitment guide, they recomend a 180mm for a 5.5 wheel on everything but the 999, which is a 190mm on a 5.5. The tire is a Qualifier, both sizes. Just curious as to why they would do that.

190/50ZR17 Qualifier can be used on a 5.50 but they recommend 6.00 the underlined number is recommended and other is what it will fit.
The 5.50 is going to make the tire more rounded.
