BEcause the market doesnt really want them anymore. The US doesnt have cc restrictions for new riders, heard Japan relaxed their cc restrictions. Most kids dont want to ride a 250 because "Its not as cool as a 600 or 1000". Most think they can handle a 600 or 1000, but have absolutely no idea what they are getting themselves into.

In the U.S. the 250cc population tends to be dirt bikes, scooters, and some streetbikes. The only 250cc sportbike I'm aware of is the Zawasaki Ninja 250.

Why get a 250 when you can start on a Busa?!?!?!?!

A lot of guy's that are looking for a 250 are looking for a really sporty 250 that they can take to the track. Me, I'd like one for the street and one for the track. But I'll take the tracker first thank you.

I think we (the US) should have similar laws to Aus in requiring folks to start out on 250's for at least a year. But..... like most lazy americans, they'll just wait the year without a bike, then go get the Busa.

its crazy i think. there are alot of motorcycle deaths over ther in the us acording to google. but that includes the helmet law wich is u decide. and the alcohol effect. a big nono on a bike.

What about the Aprillia 250 stroker - if I remeber correctly they had a Suzi RGV motor V2 two stroke motor.

They are not in the current Aprillia model range, but there is always a chance of finding a new - old stock model.

Come to think of it, Pagetts have got all sorts of new old stock two strokes in stock according to a magazine article I read about a year ago - including TZ500's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's a shame myself as well Willi.

Although, a 250 would be outgrown quite quickly by a decent rider. I think "all" manufacturers should resurrect the 400cc class and put rider restrictions on 600cc and up. This would make excellent sense for a number of reasons and could go along ways to possible even lowering insurance legislation and several other truths, BUT, one ugly reality stands in the way of all this common sense. $$$$$$ the cash money!! Which usually means all things whether sensible or not get filed under G unfortunately.

It would be a good standard to start off all beginners at a 250cc level but like said before,if you have the cash,you can get whatever you want.
I was lucky enough when I was 17 that my old man insisted I get a 250 first.As a matter of fact it was a Yamaha srx 250.That was a fun little bike and I still picked up some girls with it.....

Coming home from Baltimore yesterday,I saw this group of bikes at a light and one guy was obviously to little for the GSXR under him and dumped it right at the light.I can only hope he made it home ok...

This is EXACTLY why I don't ride with groups. One of my friends has been after me to ride the Dragon with his group for almost 2 years. I have a better chance of getting an R1 50th Anniversary Edition than he does of EVER seeing my tail pipe blowing smoke on the Dragon !

Technically Aprilia RS250's are not street legal in teh US (although some people have got them titled and registered, but they still are by law illegal) since the US banned street 2 strokes made after 1987 over 125cc's.

Also they arent considered a "beginner bike" by any stretch of the word. They are just as much a handfull as a 600ss is. I rode a few laps on an Aprilia Cup bike and that damn thing was stupid fun.

Still want one for playing on the track though.

Hyosung GT250R actually is a pretty sharp bike.

They just started carrying these at my local Yami dealer. One of the sales men said that they have been supplying Yami with some of their smaller engins for a couple of years now. Don't know if it's true or not, but like Rob said, Colud be an interseting little scoot.....
