Mate things are real bad here, in VIC they have been in big trouble for a few day now & the death toll is still rising.
NSW had a few outbreaks but we did ok here.
A friend was telling me the fire was that bad there were fireballs doing over 40mph !!! rolling in like huge waves at the beach. Nothing on fire just big balls of fire. Just really bad news.

the fires are only an hour up the road from where Spook, Hotcam and i live

the death toll stands at 173, and is expected to top 300

entire communities have been wiped out, 800 homes destroyed, and thousands left homeless

we have been belted by really hot weather in victoria latly, with last sat topping out at 46.7C

thanks for your thoughts as we grapple to come to terms with the enormaty of what has happened

My aunt is getting ready to turn the horses loose if the fire starts heading their way (near seymour) so far most of the fires are south and south east of them.

Yes and it is still going. I also feel for the people in Queensland
(a northern state of Australia) with their floods.

These fires have attacked the area that has the best riding in the region,
so even if motorcyclists here don't personally know anyone in the
affected area, we can all picture it and think of it as a part of our
home neighborhood. It's our Deal's Gap / TheDragon / Cherohala
Skyway / Blue Ridge Parkway etc.
I know that many of my favourite coffee stops
and pubs along the roadsides are gone, I hope that the people behind
the counters there got out ok, including the big barman with the beard
at St Andrews pub, and the people at Marysville bakery, Christmas shop,
ski shop, servo, the Kinglake bakery and servo and supermarket...
everybody :(
It is good to see the giving spirit coming out, the relief centres are
swamped with more donated clothes than they can hand out, and the
donation fund is going up quickly. However the enormity of the tragedy
means that any donations will still be vitally urgent.

This is a truly mind numbing time in Australia, my heartfelt sympathy goes to all affected by the Fires in Victoria and the Floods in QLD, I will be donating what ever I can afford and giving clothes etc to the Red Cross.
Australia has been my new home for the last 13yrs and I just want to give to the people that have so welcomed me.
Yes I have friends (through work) in nearly all the states of Aus, and some of their stories are frightening, In the past I have been caught in a bush fire whilst driving and to say it scared me was an understatement!!!
Any members of this forum that wish to contribute in some way please do!!

As fires still continue to burn around my home state of Victoria, the numbers continue to grow

186 people have lost their live, 1800 properties destroyed, over 7000 people left homelss

It now appears that some of these fires were the result of arson, with a man in his 30's arrested by police yesterday over suspected involvment in the Gippsland fires.

The relief effort has also been staggering, with over $100 million dollars donated to the red cross bushfire appeal,

All my friends are safe, with my good friend, (and original owner of Spooks FZ) Basset spending a sleepless night putting out spot fires, and my neices boyfriends parents loosing their house, and his dad put in hospital after his mum pinned him between 2 cars in the smoke and confusion

I'm glad they caught the idiot, but that is no constellation to the people that are affected by all this. My thoughts and prays are with you over there. I'm glad there are so many people donating to the cause.

I'm glad they caught somebody, I hope there can be a fair trial and
not a lynch mob. I hope they catch more of those arsonists, and I hope
that anyone found guilty gets a punishment which is deterring to others.

Lynching? They should be shot
Only AFTER we've fairly proven them guilty. After that, I'm willing to be
harsh with sentencing.
So are all the exup members here from Vic accounted for?

I hope everyone is ok and Jello hopes their bikes are ok too :)
(She is not a confident swimmer so floods scare her, when we go on the ferry I have to promise her they have motorcycle sized life belts :) )

Thoughts to all of you over in Aussie, I've been watching the on going drama and loss on TV - holy shit!!!!

And the fires are still burning.

Somehow I don't anyone will need to pull the trigger on a convicted arsonist, the guys with him in jail will take care of it...

We may side against you in sport, but were all behind you in supporting you in times like this - it's that ANZAC spirit coming out again.
