Split casing

Post by akcribs »

took all visible engine bolts out of the engine on my 1990 FZR1000 but the casing will not split. Is there a secret to this. I don't want to crack the engine but I can't get it to come apart any more than 1/8 of an inch. Can't see anything holding it together. Help..

You have to take off the cylinder jug and remove to unscrew the remaining crankcase bolts. I hope you didn't damage anything by prying your cases .125 in. apart. Other members have mentioned reassembly without these bolts for easier disassembly, I wouldn't recommend it since these keep the main journals together under the considerable load generated and will likely lead to a crank/bearing failure.
