I've only ever riden my bike without my helmet around my neighborhood and gotta say that it is one noisy $(&!#$. Just don't notice it as much when my helmet is on I guess.
Nate
87 FZR 1000

We got clearence, Clarence. Roger, Roger. Cam chain has an auto-adjuster.
Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Has anyone seen my keys?
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers
'94 FZR 1000

If you've had your cases split, that's obviously major work. have you found any chunks of metal in the oil pan? More specifically, have you had any pieces of the clutch plates or basket laying around inside?

If you have, then you might have a problem with a bent tooth, or teeth, on the primary gear and this would effectively change the modus (metric for gear pitch - just learned that today) and cause pulses to shock the gear train. I've personally found this to be a problem on someone else's FZR that had a broken basket. I ended up doing a hack repair on the gear by using prussian blue and diamond files. Obviously, that's not the best way to go about fixing it.

This could also be a problem in the gear box, if chunks of metal ended up bouncing around there. Bent shaft can also cause this noise. I hope they checked for this when it was torn down.

Don't be persuaded by the argument that these are noisy motors and all is normal. They clank a little at idle. If your rolling down the road and you hear it, it's trouble.

Just thought I'd correct myself. the term 'modus' is incorrect and should be 'module'. Looks like I'm a slow learner.

yes there was alot of broken pieces from the clutch basket and plates, the shop remove all the bits from the engine, but failed to inspect the gear box. They are doing this now.
