Just thought i would say hi to everyone on here. Only just got my EXUP, been a two stroke fan for years, this bike seems so modern compared to my Suzuki GT750's i mean it's all electronic. Even the fuel tap, which caused me to have to sit at the side of the motorway for an hour till my mate collected me in the van when i ran onto reserve, but the switch would'nt turn it on to reserve. That's another thing to sort out, when i get the time. The first problem was some clown that owned the bike before me had done a really good job of cleaning and greasing the exup valve, it moved really freely, but they had put the pulley onto the valve the wrong way round, so the servo was pulling it shut rather than opening it. Hey well, it all makes life interesting. I don't believe that the exup valve should be lubricated. It gets so hot, that it will burn on and bind up. My 98 R! doesn't call for it, and I feel that any year for that matter would not call for it. You guys could dig in your manuals and see if we could come to a consensus on all the vairants. <p></p><i></i>

The exup valve should be greased. I use a product called anticease that contains copper & other additives. This product won't be burnt off quickly like normal greases and will leave behind the copper residue that continues to lubricate the brass bush once dry. I think you can use molyibdium grease as well as it has a fairly high burn point?<br><br>This is just a stab in the dark. The R1 has a different exup valve to the earlier models. It has a smaller & lighter housing. The internals I'll assume are also different. If this correct then it would mean that the maintenace procedures are possibly different. It wouldn't hurt greasing the R1 exup if it is servicable either? <p></p><i></i>

The mechanic I use, who used to prepare FZR's when they were raced and therefore knows heaps about them, doesn't recommend lubing the bushes as he say's it will burn off and turn to gunk (a scientific name for crud <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :p --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/tongue.gif ALT=":p"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> ). I did wonder about the high temperature stuff though, how well does the anticease work rat? <p></p><i></i>

Anti-cease is primarily ground up nickel which is mixed in with grease. When it burns up it creates a sticky paste. It works alright on bolts, but a shaft with a bushing would probably bind up. <p></p><i></i>
