New Bike Break-in: Contrasting theory!! Also smaller ports?!

Post by Nbot »

Hey ya'll, check out this site: Mototune USA.

Read thru the links on break in procedures and rings/hp, also go to the bottom of this page for more on all the manufacturers actually doing high rpm dyno testing on the assy line, which contradicts the suggested break in procedure! Although the site contains a slew of MLM or cheesy maxims, I'm thinking they might still be legit........

And check out their stuff on "high-velocity intake porting"...very against the grain!!!!

You have to give an email addy to get in, but feel free to give a fake one if you want (I did), they don't check.....
Nbot
'94 Fizzer Litre
Be alert ... the world needs more lerts ... :)
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... ot>Nbot at: 10/30/04 12:03 pm

NBOT,

I enjoy this guy's website because he writes about this on the net. I enjoy reading and learning about tuning from anywhere I can get info. But like dragracer said, this is hardly new or original thought - just hyped-up packaging mostly. but he does offer anecdotal evidence - which is ore than I can offer on a lot of this!

For some enjoyable reading try armyofdarkness.com and go to the articles page. It's a pretty good account of club racing gone serious. Also, one of the articles mentions epoxy for the intake ports (the '95 racing season).

Enjoy,
Chris

got to agree with you on this one FJ1289!... the story of "armyofdarkness" is by far the most entertaining race-bike-story ever:

Intake port reduction

Post by Agabinet »

I did this intake port reduction thing on a spare head for my YZF750 this past summer. I have not dyno'd it so I can't say if it works, and my seat of the pants dyno isn't accurate enough to tell you if I've gained a couple of horses as the revs go up. I can say this -- the bike still works and the JBWeld hasn't busted and messed up the cylinders yet!

Ari

Aga, that's great, I was hoping to be able to talk w/ someone who had done it, I'd never heard of it before, but ol' Jim there seems to say its an old idea.....Why did you end up doing it? Someone talk you into it or do folks do it where you're from? I guess the big news is that yes it still runs!! haha....but nothing major on hp huh? Is it supposed to be high rpm hp? I wish you'd done a before/after dyno on the same machine...
Nbot
'94 Fizzer Litre
Be alert ... the world needs more lerts ... :)

for the porting idea i dont know....but I think that valentino bike havent that kind of porting lol.
about the heat cycle break in: the heat cycle is the best way for sure, also radio controlled engine that make 40000 rpm are break in that way nowdays. you have to reach the right pressure and heat and friction for the ring to properly seat and so on and you have to do in the first 500-1000 km.
