HI I am currently riding an 85 fz 750 with an 87 fzr 1000 engine. I had the intake manifolds machined to accept yzf 750 carbs with an OWO1 airbox. I am thinking of switching to a set of 39 mm Keihin flat slide carbs but I had a few questions first<br><br>1- how do they perform on the street? in traffic, etc.<br>2- do I need to change the throttle cables and twist grip?<br>3- will the OWO1 airbox still fit?<br><br>thank you <p></p><i></i>

Well....I don't know if the airbox will fit or not but the carbs should work fine on the street, They may not be as forgiving of wacking a handfull at low RPM's as vacuume carbs but you should get a noticeable increase from them.<br>I would imagine that you will need to change the throttle and cables<br>I know Orient express sells everything you need, as do other places, Sudco springs to mind<br>Jim <p></p><i></i>

The flatslides on the yzf sp (the ones your using) have electronically controlled trickery connected to the throttle to stop them dumping too much fuel at any given time and causing the bike to bog down or stall...........This obviously may trouble your conversion......Good luck !!! <p></p><i></i>

The ‘electronic trickery’ is just a TPS (throttle position sensor) & adjusted the timing slightly. Flatslides are supposed to be notoriously bitchy to hamfisted applications of throttle, but either the SP is tolerant of this or the TPS & corresponding ignition tweak is very effective.<br><br>he question is does the ignition cater for the TPS?<br><br>Helps to have decent plugs, those twin electrode or Iridium NGKs seem good.<br> <p></p><i></i>

No on the air box: Must use K&N pods.<br><br>Have not done it to this application, but: 39mm FCRs are going to be tricky on a bike with no Exup valve. Also the machining of the intakes you did to get the 750 carbs on there may or may not make things a lot more difficult. If you are running a stock 88 FZR ignition box there is no TPS input possible and this too would make life more difficult with the 39mm FCRs & no Exup valve.<br><br>If you had an 88 FZR1000 throttle twist grip assemble than I could supply push & pull throttle cables with the FCRs that would hook everything up.<br><br>If this were a stock 89 FZR1000 with compression, good valves, & an Exup I would be saying go for it.<br><br>In short, you are talking about boldly going off into the unknown. If it were my money I would find another path and I have a vested interest in selling FCR carbs. Might work: Awful lot of variables!<br><br>Matt at PSB <p></p><i></i>
