The Exup...

Post by Peppa2 »

Well can i save a stuck exup? well i did my valve shims yesterday and found allot of bits and rubber stuff that has to be changed.

And i was thinking of just checking the exup and it was stuck. so off came the cables and trying to get the screws out 1 was broken off. one is lose so i can get it out and one of the screws are stuck and the head is round. so its stuck argh <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... oapbox.gif ALT=":soap">

but the bike has always running great so i ask why? it was in the closed position so i forced it in a half open position and the bike responds faster on mid ranged rpm now. so im wondering where does it get stuck is it the Small collar/ bush thingy that rust away so it gets stuck or is it the valve itself thats the problem`??? im not taking it out before i can get some new screws to have a look at it. man i got so <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... ng_sad.gif ALT=":sad"> when i saw this ....
1990 Fzr 1000
Norway <img src="http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y102/P ...

That's the deal with these things Peppa, expensive and intricate engines that need extra care to work in top shape.
I won't help for a stuck valve, but I would recommend every two years (along with changing the coolant) to pull the EXUP valve and check it, and the bushings. Replace anything that looks worn.
Always reassemble the screws with high grade copper never-seize, and these problems will not bother you.
The rubber bits are going to go bad with age, and the only approach is to check them regularly (carb boots etc.) and to replace as needed.
It sucks, I know, but from the outset, when these bikes were new - every write up I saw mentioned something about the extra costs of building and maintaining these bikes.
But ask this, when your scoot goes 170 mph, do you really want any cheap parts???
I don't.
Genisx1AtYahooeyDotCommaMomma
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... upElvis at: 6/6/05 3:55 pm

well i dont want any cheap parts either. i use only yamaha parts for it... well is 2 years ago i check the exup last time so i think it's my own lack of taking care of it. but it's no biggie just got a new job with better pay so i can spend on the bike. the carb rubber bits is not exspensive but the valve is, <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... ananna.gif ALT=":banana">

well for the good side on this is i have something to do when it rains. And i think i might get some copper paste to put on the screws so they dont get stuck again.

But i never had it out before so im going to take pictures when i do, and i hope its not to bad. <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... moly grease

Post by canappa »

copper grease are ok for most things that heat up a lot, expecially thread and where there is need of a protective finm against rusting and seizing of the surface exposed to elements, but where there is some sort of movement or friction, like in the exup or headstock bearing or swingarm parts, is better to use moly grease, it is far more resistent, it is also used in some internal parts of the engine and you can still find it there after several years, also read somewhere to use aluminum grease where aluminum is involved with other metal pats cause if other kind grease is used the aluminum parts will be eated up.....but I never had such kind problem using copper grease over aluminum or alloy parts.....

canap
