Heatproof coating?
Once more I call upon my brethren for advice.
Just purchased an exup exhaust, minus end can, for £16 off ebay (bargain). Needs a small hole welding up and will then need coating, as my bike is naked I was wondering about chrome, then a guy at work mentioned you can get stuff stainless steel coated, or should I opt for powder coating? Then theres the problem of masking the bits that don't want coating such as the ends that fit into the head, the bearing seats for the exup valve etc.. Any clues?? Suggestions??

Re: Heatproof coating?
Were I going to have a header done, I'd have it ceramic coated. Works like header tape in that it causes an increase in gas velocity through the pipe. The drawback is that it is expensive. You can have most anything painten in what ever you want or plated too, an dhave the painter or plater mask the holes and areas you do not want finished. The issue is that it is YOUR responsibility to communicate to the finisher what YOUR requirements are. You need to be sure that he understands how you want the job done

There ya have it
Jim <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... Ceramics
Thanx for the top feedback my friends, just how much is the ceramic coating? I need to work out the ratio of £/bhp. Plus I also realize that it's usually the prep work getting the pipes ready for coating that can be expensive. I've use ultra high temperature paint before on my existing pipes but it seems to go on very thin and is almost porous in finish and surface rust comes through after only a few months especially in the wintertime, the main reason I bought another set of pipes was thge fear that my current ones would rot, so corrosion protection should figure strongly in my final decision.

Re: Ceramics
The power you will get from ceramic coating is not much...add to what you have...it will increase gas speed.
It will also have the larger benifit of being the best rust proof for your pipe.
Jim <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... Ceramics
Cheers Steve I've been doing a bit of research and may have found a compromise I can get a 4oz tin of ceramic paint from these guys: <a href="http://www.racestuff.co.uk/70040/info.p ...

for around £25 +p&p and it's good to 2000degsC. Obviously won't be as good as your mate can do but will probably be considerably cheaper.

Cheers again, Russ
