Cant Stop!!
Hi,
im sure its an old question, people keep telling me Yam brakes are a bugger...but i have to ask... can throw some magical inspiration on bleeding the front stoppers on a 93 yzf...
Currently running braided hoses (replaced the old master cylinder and got new piston and guts for that too)... standard 6 pots, which last season worked fine... nothing leaking that i can see...
Several hours and a couple of bottles of new fluid later and i still have no feel/ pressure on the lever, it just keeps hitting the bar...
HELP!!! ITS NEARLY SUMMER!!

Go on Ebay and locate you a set of R1/R6 calipers. Minimun amount of work to fit them and boy is there a difference.
Kontoboy has a very good walkthrough on how to do this on his Website. Either PM him or do a search for his posts.

Maybe air in the master cylinder--try unclamping it from the clip-on and tipping it and pumping so any air runs up to the resevoir.
How are your new hoses set up--if you have a hose crossing over from one caliper to the other, remove the last caliper in the run and raise it up so any air in the cross-over hose can rise into the caliper, then try bleeding again.
Make sure you have a second person handy to keep the resevoir topped off during the process.

ok, thanks for that guys.. gives me something to work on...
Kontoboy, I have 2 straight lines from the master cylinder to the calipers, so the crossover pipe isnt an issue... and the walk through on the upgrade to R1 calipers is nicely done though!! (perhaps an option for the future...)
Another question though... the R1 master cylinder... on inital appearance it looks identical to the yzf version.. is it the same inside?? stroke/ fluid displacement?? if its not, im thinking this could be the problem... as thats what i replaced the original one with!
Any tips on reverse bleeding? i have had a go, but its hard work!!

The YZF750 and R1 master cylinders are different part numbers, and I believe the R1 MC is smaller than the YZF750's. Yeah, that could account for the squishy feeling.
I put some Brembo calipers with a R1 MC on my bike and never got good feel at the lever--had power but it always felt squishy. This winter I replaced the R1 MC with a larger Brembo MC (off a Ducati) and the lever is much firmer now.
Try going back to the YZF750 MC and see how it feels, or make the jump to the R6/R1 calipers.
Reverse bleeding? I've used a mityvac to replace coolant and bleed, especially good with ABS systems.

The master cylinder will trap air in the short up-hill end of the cylinder.
Crack the banjo bolt at the master cylinder outlet, pull in the brake lever, tighten the banjo bolt, release the brake lever.
It's up to you to catch the fluid. Wrap a rag around the whole works as best you can while performing the operation.
Repeat as needed, but once or twice should do it if that's where the air is.
It works. Really.

I think i may have found part of the issue, I got the hump and left the bike standing for a while and it was after a couple of days i noticed a dicky bleed nipple... so i replaced the pair...fingers beadled eh?
Will give that one a go ExupElvis... There is some feel there, if i get nothing more from bleeding from the top banjo, im going back to the old YZF 750 MC...as suggested...
