I don't know what I was thinking. Was getting my bike ready for a track day on Saturday and decided to pull off my FCRs and put my Mikuni's back on. The Mikunis ran great last year with a Dynojet kit, and I was still having some issues with the FCRs I didn't have time to sort out.
We'll, we've been packing stuff for a move and I couldn't find the airbox. So I slapped the K&N Pods on.
Dumb! Got to the track and it wouldn't run over 8K. I suspect it was lean--lots of free flowing air not pulling gas through. And I didn't bring the any of the jets to the track. Dumb x 2!
So after the second session called it a day (the club offer 1/2 day credit for morning mechnical failures and crashes--nice). Went home and put the FCRs back on. They ran well Monday/Tuesday at VIR.
Just curious, anyone have any DynoJet jetting recommendationa for Mikunis with K&N Pods? With the stock airbox I had 122s in.
Not that I'll do that again--just curious.

I had K&N filter pods on a 91 katana 600 and had to jump up 20% in jet sizes to make it pull full rpm range. The only thing I really liked over the stock airbox was the "wuuuuuuuuuuuahhhhhhhhhhh" sound they made when you nailed the throttle. (only reason I went with them is the bike didnt come with an airbox or filters and the filters were cheaper than locating and buying the stock airbox and filter, plus I could say it had K&N pods on it LOL)
If you want to live life by your own terms, you gotta be willing to crash and burn...
I run my 88FZR1000 motor in the 750 chassis with KN individual filters and the stage 3 jet kit with a Kerker ceramic coated pipe. Lazy at 2-3k but works flawlessy above that. I use the 136 mains and rest of what the kit has. Here's the kit specs. If your's is a different year the specs are also available.

I believe Euro jets are sized different that's why the other response uses smaller jets

Wow! 122 to 128 mains and 20%--big jumps. I was running way lean. I'm glad I didn't flog the bike and just packed it up and went home.
I like the sound too of the pods too. You'd love the sound with with velocity stacks!
Thanks for the insights. I decided to sell the Mikuni carbs and focus on getting the FCRs running well.
Thanks again.

a note. in the late 80's and early 90's played many games w/Geneis motors, both 750 ant 1000's mostly w/Exup removed(on 1000'S) in favor of less restrictive exhaust and weight savings. found that the stack height (the tube connected to carb intake throat inside stock airbox) was a major factor for smooth powerband. perhaps you've seen dyno curves w/the typical step between 5 and 7 grand. common option was to run stock airbox and tubes and open airbox intake area either with or without filter and jet accordingly. luck G
