It must really stink having all of those tools and such. If I had a machine shop I'd only come out for four things :

1) Play with the wife.

2) Play with the kids.

3) Create a few decent photographs.

4) Ride my FZR.

The way he works, he has time for none of those except #1 when she says so.....

Well at least he has options !

FYI, we nearly bought a modular on 4 acres in the Center Hill area. The owner sold carpeting. Must be one heck of a business as he had a '69 Camaro with dual quads on a tunnel ram sitting in a 2000 sq. ft garage. He even put in a special room for the times that he and the wife wanted to get away from the family :banana

I'm doing a run of 530 chain pins or the Motion Pro tool. They are made from A2 tool Steel. They will come off the machine the morning and go in the heat treat oven after that. I think I'll make about 30 of them. This is just the pin to press the pins apart. I can make riveters as well...but this is just the pin that everyone breaks.
I'll look at number's in the morning and have a price. I'm thinking about $20. There is quite a bit of work involved

I thought you were making an actual chain tool? I need one, and don't think I'll be pissing myself off with the Motion Pro. Let me know when and if you're going to make a run of these?

I've got the RK one, it's done well for about 14 years....

I do need to get a setup to do the FZR1000 cam chain though (who TF uses a freakin' rivetted cam chain?!). Jim any chance you can do a cam chain pin swage piece for me? A2 should be just peachy....

Michael
I can make the whole tool. I didn't think there was enough interest or I would have persued it further.

And yes, I can make you a cam chain pin.

Jim.

I'm still inerested in a chain tool (cut and press links) but I never heard an estimated price.

Give me a ballpark and I'll tell you if I'm in or not. Otherwise I'll take a set of pins.

Hey Jim,

Maybe we'll just add the chain break on to my list of machining stuff when we get there. I should pick up Yamacati's 1070 kit here this week. Been waiting on an answer back from Falicon 'bout the crank forever, I think I'll have to get on the phone with them. Just in case you thought I went aware, nope! Still need stuff done. Just been busy with other stuff.

Cheers,

Ok, I don't own a chain tool at all. Should I purchase the Motion Pro and then Jim's pin? Or, should I prod Jim into making a complete tool kit?

I am ordering a new chain and sprockets as we type, so will need a chain tool soon.

Ever tried just cutting the old chain with a sawzall or cut-off wheel? I usually do that and it takes like 2 minutes. As for pressing the plates, one of my buddies had me replace his chain & sprockets, he had a EK chain and it came with 2 shims that perfectly spaced the side plates without squashing the o or x-ring. Still use it to this very day on all kinds of chains. Maybe this would be a good idea Dr. Jim! I can take a pic of it if you want and just let me know how to measure it and it'll be done.

I think we need to see if Jim is actually going to make the press. I need to order the pins as well. Hey Jim, do you have a pin for rounding the rivets over as well ? As for the saw-z-all, I'm not sure how you would get the links out except maybe using a grinder to grind all the way down.
