Straightening wheels - good idea??

Post by duke22 »

I have a front FZR wheel that has a buckled rim, not bad (maybe 5 - 6mm) but not really usable as it is. A local firm can roll it straight for about NZ$100 (US$70). Has anyone any experience of doing this? I gather its a routine repair for car rims but on a bike you rely on that front wheel a bit more...

No reason why cast ally wouldn't straighten okay. Heating to about 100 deg (hot water) helps. Would I? probably not the front... Dye pen. afterwards ;)

I've had a few repaired over the years with no problems. I think it is fairly common.
