Gearbox Bearings

Post by gaz1969 »

Hi All

I'm going to be changing the box on my 87 1000, and wondered if anyone has ever used new bearings without the small locating dowels? The genuine Yamaha ones are so expensive but the normal grooved bearing minus the dowels are quite cheap.

Cheers

Yes I have. The bearing I purchased had a higher load rating as well. Had to pop the grease seal off one side on a couple of them. Output shaft seals are also available.

I'm not going to recommend not using the dowels, but as you are aware they are much cheaper. I used a dob of locktite on the upper an lower surfaces, this is the same trick a lot of racers use on RD-TZ cranks and it works fine.

It might end in tears... so I will let you know!
