1040 doesn't require re-sleeving. Just remember, if you take it apart you have to check the head and sometimes that can get very expensive.

Chuck D.

Expected HP gain from 1040 kit?

I posted this same question elsewhere as well but haven't see a reply. Then ran across this post and no one has replied yet about power gains from the 1040? Come on folks! I'm anxiously awaiting to hear what kind of power from the swap to the larger bore 1040...Thanks in Advance

BTW - ExupTurbo I just recently viewed your pics and wow - thats great. I remember when I used to frequent the track there was a supercharged! yes supercharged GSXR somethin...I recall it was a 1100 and it would run an easy 150MPH run every time in the 1/4 mile - it was great - I spoke to the guy once and he said you could barely keep the front wheel on the ground long enough to apply some of the power - Really weird seeing the supercharger on a bike with the compressor pulley sticking out the side -

I can't tell you how much of a horsepower increase a 1040 kit alone will get you.

It's about a 10.37 increase in displacement. Factor in new pistons, rings, a fresh bore and hone job, plus a complete going over of the valve train and a good carb sync and you should be able to pick up about 7-10 hp just on the kit alone.
More if you have a pipe, jet kit, carbs, headwork, raised compression......

I do know that there is no replacement for displacement and that cubic dollars will beat cubic inches everytime.

Thanks for the reply LC130LOAD1.

Looks like NOS will get the nod. Hmmm...I read one post on another board the fizzer did 165mph with NOS in the 1320. That's be interesting, especially given the weight of the big exup should balance off the power. We'll see.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub28.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherho ... >jjs777 at: 6/4/03 10:24 pm

Hey exupturbo, curiously how much cost is a turbo anyways? Did you ever consider a supercharger instead of a turbo?

I did consider a supercharger but it is difficult to get any kind of drive from the end of an exup crank.
I bought a new IHI turbo for £550 and made the rest of conversion myself.

Mark

An unexpected engine rebuild has resulted in up sizing to 1040, new crank and rods. Hopefully I will get my FZR1000 back from the workshop very soon and will be able to update with dyno readings.

Your FZR1000 made 157rwhp with only a 1040 kit?
You need to stop doing what you are doing and become a factory Yamaha race mechanic.

I could see 157rwhp with carbs, cams and headwork.

Your picture looked funny, so I copied it and enlarged it.
It's been photoshopped.

And after looking at the original post at bikepics I saw that the 157 was a crankshaft reading (which unless it was measured at the crank is very subjective).

The 144 reading is still pretty high for a bike with just a 1040 kit in it, but like I said, the image has been photoshopped.

Photoshopped ?

Yes it has !

But... (and its a big BUT)...
only in the name section ("Fauzi" and "TheNightDevil™" were transplant by me) NOT in the Graph !!! (I can upload the original scan if you like, where you can see the reg number instead).

Yes... 157 its in the crank.
The bike got the Wiseco 1040 kit with K&N filter in the original air-box, Arrow Can, original pipes, oroginal crab (different needle height).
Thats it !

If its true or not... beats me. Maybe you should ask this Fuchs !.

Stock FZR1000 with 50000 km on the odometer produce
138 in the crank on the same Dyno.
Different FZR, with the same configuration as mine, has produce 153 in the crank.

You do the math.

:-)

TheNightDevil

:-)

Bike Dyno

I have yet to find a dyno in my area but will be looking around as I'm curious for my bikes.

Question - So as to not get robbed how much can I expect to pay for a dyno run for my bike? I'm in the US. Also, if I want to fool with dip switches for my timing etc (powerpak) is it reasonable for me to ask multiple runs for not too much money? Ok last question, for any given dyno run, will they do all gears? I ask this since I was watching a mpeg and they did about 4 runs, looked like they were doing multiple gears (pretty cool to watch) and each gear seperately. If I find the mpeg I'll paste the link here.

<a href="http://www.nickmora.com/images/vids/954 ...

Thanks,
John

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub28.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherho ... >jjs777 at: 7/2/03 4:40 pm

Well, here at Israel this kind of test cost 150 NIS (about 33$)
and it's taking about 10 to 15 minute to perform. They run all the gears and you cas ask for any graph that you like...
(there are at least two kinds of graph that I know of...)

I reckon that Dyno-run for real time fine-tuning will cost more...

Ezra

:-)

TheNightDevil

:-)

Hi Guys,
My previous post under fzr1000r was not quite true. It spiked at 141HP but the true RWHP reading was 132HP. My engine was worn and required a rebuild so I have now upsized to 1040. On a different dyno . Reading prior to rebuild 128HP, reading after rebuild 139HP. I will try to post a copy of the dyno chart soon.
Cheers
Darrin
