FZR clutch

Post by ColoradoFizzer »

Hello, my 1992 FZR 1000 exploded the clutch basket. I got it apart and got a different basket and clutch. Does anyone know how many fiber plates and metal plates there should be and what order......there also is a metal ring that appears to have been in the middle of the clutch assembley. I was not able to pull the old clutch out in one piece to be able to install the new clutch in the same order...........thanks

Friction plate question!

Post by jjs777 »

Okay this is confusing me. Bikeazoid stated the orders of the friction plates based on normal, thick and thin. According to his description it is not consistent with the yamaha parts fiche located at the following url - may have to select model year - fzr1000 - then clutch
<a href="http://216.37.204.203/Yamaha_OEM/Yamaha ...

I went thru the diagrams for the 90 and 95 model year clutch plates. On the 90 there are (4) unique part #'s for the friction plates - countem 4! The 95 only has (3) unique part #'s.

I did not know the 90 vs 95 was different. So with that said when stating friction plate installaton order it would be wise to ask what year bike. Since I was assuming they were the same.

1990 Specifications for Clutch Plates

#7 (6 req) 4H7-16321-00-00 PLATE, FRICTION $7.95 $47.70
#9(1 req) 31A-16321-00-00 PLATE, FRICTION $7.95 $7.95
#13(1 req) 5Y1-16331-01-00 PLATE, FRICTION $11.65 $11.65
#14(1 req) 3GM-16321-00-00 PLATE,FRICTION $5.41 $5.41
SubTotal
$72.71
Type of shipping & handling: Standard Shipping (5-10 days)
$10.00
Total
$82.71

1995 Specifications for Clutch Plates

#7(7 req) 4H7-16321-01-00 PLATE, FRICTION $7.95 $55.65
#8(1 req) 31A-16321-00-00 PLATE, FRICTION $7.95 $7.95
#12(1 req) 3GM-16321-00-00 PLATE,FRICTION $5.41 $5.41
SubTotal
$69.01
Type of shipping & handling: Standard Shipping (5-10 days)
$10.00
Total
$79.01

I am bringing this up cuz I just ran across a 'new' set of barnett friction plates that I had bought for my original 90 bike about 5 years ago - never installed. Use the 94 clutch pack. If you try to order any part #, they will automatically be supercedded. The wavy washer should get ditched and there anre only three different part #'s to order. Look at the pack on a 94 and this is the way you wnat to set it up. Stock plates and steel work the best. MAKE SHURE TO SOAK YOUR PLATES!!!! If you forget to soak your clutch plates in oil, you will have a clunky gearbox and shifting action. Leave them soaking overnight in a contaminent free cofee can is the best.
Chuck D.
