Ok I'm at wits end with this one...<!--EZCODE IMAGE START--><img src="http://members.optusnet.com.au/lanemeye ... uh.sml.gif" style="border:0;"/><!--EZCODE IMAGE END--><br><br>(This is a 87 FZR1000)<br>Here's the deal: The turn signal lights will come on, but will not actually blink. They will blink somewhat (i.e. VERY fast) when the bike is not running. Once the engine is going the lights stay on constantly with no blinking whatsoever.<br><br>I have replaced the actual turn signal relay (thanks <!--EZCODE IMAGE START--><img src="http://members.optusnet.com.au/lanemeye ... il.sml.gif" style="border:0;"/><!--EZCODE IMAGE END--> Tim!) so it's not a fault in the relay itself. I took the switch housing assembly apart last night and everything seems to be working properly. I tore it down to make sure connections were being made, no broken wires, etc. I also discovered last night that I have one of the brake light bulbs burned out, plus a wire had broke going to the the left rear signal. I hooked the wire back up and the light works now.<br><br>I had this problem before the brake bulb burned out or the wire broke so I have no idea what to do now. If the lights come on and turn off I would assume the switch is working properly. I'm half tempted to redo all of the wiring this weekend if I have to. Could 1 broken wire that's hiding from me be the cause of all this or is it something else? I'm open to any and all suggestions. The reason the lights flash with the iggy on is voltage is fine. engine running voltage a little low??<br>you need proper voltage to get the relay to kick...I'd look for a corroded ground connector<br>Jim <p></p><i></i>

I'll check that...thanks Jim. When I got the bike the guy said it had a new battery in it, plus I have the old one as well as a back up. Check the wattage of the bulbs, this is critical to the operation of the flashers, they should be 21w bulbs also check the one in the clocks is working too, this should be a 5w, check the bulb holders for resistance (ie corrosion).<br>The fact that the flashing rate changes when running is a pretty good indication your charging system is ok. Flashers will flash quicker with less resistance in the circuit (eg bulb out) and slower with more. Had this one with a trailer at work, the driver had fitted 28v bulbs to it (go figure where the hell he got those from) and the LCM (lighting control module) went apeshit.<br>Hope this helps.<br><br>Rob <p></p><i></i>

Thanks, Pilot. don't forget that the front flashers are also running lights. The are 3 wire jobs and might be plugged in incorrectly. <p></p><i></i>

The only time they light is when the the turn signal is on. I'm just curious if this is true for my year...can anybody verify? That's how my 87 is wired up. You should have Three wires on each side with bullet type connectors. The running lights are powered by the blue wire on both sides. The left turn signal is 'chocolate' and the right is dard green. The remaining wire is ground. make sure that your wires are correctly hooked up, that the bulbs aren't being internally shorted by a broken element and that the turn signal indicator light in your instrument cluster is the correct and undamaged. The indicator light is wired between both turn signal subcircuits, so that when one side is blinking, it sends power to the indicator lamp and then ends up being grounded through the bulbs on the inactive side. <p></p><i></i>

Well, Circus hit the proverbial nail on the head. THANK YOU!!!<br><br>I checked my wiring diagram when I got home and it did show that there should be 3 wires going to the front signals. I got to looking around up front last night and low and behold I found wires unhooked. After I got the upper fairing removed it was obvious what a mess that dumbass before me had made with the wiring. He had put aftermarket lights on and the type of bulbs were single filaments, so the extra (blue) wire didn't have anywhere to go to. Took one of my brake lights out and hooked up the two wires to the posts, plus ran the ground, and it works.<br><br>So I know what my weekend project is going to be. Only problem is I'm probably going to have to makes some mods to the the light assembly to make a dual-filament blub work with it. Guess for the time being I'm just going to have to hard wire the bulbs by soldering the wires to it.<br><br>Haqr...I'm thinking you could unhook the wire that is the constant (running) light. But, you could end up in the mess I'm in. I'll play around with it this weekend and see if you can run it that way or not and let you know.<br><br>Thanks guys for the help & suggestions. There should be no problem with unhooking the running lights as long as you don't inadvertantly plug them into the signal circuit. I personally would leave them plugged in to let other drivers know that your not just another car coming down the road with a headlight out. <p></p><i></i>

Bulb wattage

Forgot to ask...what's the watt range for the front signal bulbs? Pilot said 21w, but I'm wondering if our UK conterparts are a bit different from ours in the states. I noticed in the wiring diagrams last night the the UK models only have 2 wires running to the front signals. I'm assuming this means they don't have the running lights on all the time. Just to confirm what circus said, if you unhook the blue wire your lights will still flash, but they won't act as running lights. Yeah - I disconnected mine a few days ago, no issues here either. I think I am gonna put a toggle switch on them though. They irritate me during the day, but I kinda like the idea of them at night, for the reason(s) stated above. With the dual light "cats eyes" I doubt it would be easy to mistake us for a one-light car, but at the same time, what is two extra orange lights gonna hurt?<br> <p></p><i></i>
