Side Stand Switch

Post by Ton up »

The switch for the side stand: does that work in conjunction with any other switches? IE a switch on the clutch and/or a switch in the gear box?
Sometimes I'll be sitting at the lights ready to go, with say 2000 revs on to try and get past the f&*^ing misfire, and I start to let out the clutch- not even enough for it to start dragging- and the misfire kicks in. That has me wondering if there's a dodgy switch somewhere. PLEASE let it be that simple!

Ton up, I know for a fact that the side stand has a switch on it. Doesn't let you drop to first with the stand down cuz, it kills the motor. I had low RPM misfiring with my '89 FZR600. Replaced the coils and it ran sweeter than crap!!!!!!!!!!!
I be ridin in the Cali Bay Area:'88 FZR1K'01 ZX-6R

Sidestand Switch

Post by djalbin »

Ton up,
The sidestand switch ties in with the starter cut-off relay, the main switch, and the clutch switch. If it was causing you problems it would be an engine cut-off symptom (on/off) rather than a misfire symptom. You will probably want to check out the spark plugs, ignition coils, igniter, signal generator, and battery to see if one of them is causing you problems.
Don

Fair enough. I was thinking along the lines of the contactors in the switch being old and dirty, and increasing revs and voltage overcoming the problem. Wishful thinking methinks!

Misfire

Post by djalbin »

Ton up,
If the sidestand switch had funky contacts, and was causing engine on/off, it would most likely cause the entire electrical system to cut-out (on/off). If the misfire is confined to the engine ignition and all the other electrical components (lights, etc ...) are not affected ... then it's probably not the sidestand switch.
Don

It's plausible that your engine cut out relay is being excited into resonating and causing misfire. Never seen it, but it's possible. Try disabling the relay circuit to see if that cures it.
<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... iker_3.gif ALT=":riding">

p.s.
