have you done a plug chop?
have you tried to block off half the air box intake to simulate rich? these will give you an indication of which way you need to go
I would think that if you have stock jetting and your carbs are clean, you may have to put a shim under the needle clip. go to the hardware store and get four washers aprox .020 thick for under the clips which will richen the midrange slightly
Jim

Usually, when you throttle it on and it feels flat without breaking up, it's running lean. It should feel a little better if you let it idle and let it get hot enough to trip the fan.

A good way to check is to do what drag racer mentioned. But, you could also quickly check by having a buddy ride behind you to look for smoke. If your running really rich, you'll leave a trail of black smoke.

You'll get it squared away after a few tries.

<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... ock_On.gif ALT=":rock"> <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... Sorry about the multiple posts. I tried to include the soap box emoticon and pointed to it with an arrow. I guess that violated some HTML rule. I'm to ignorant to know what that is exactly.

Back to your topic. It appears that you're either far enough away from optimum that you can't passively make an assesment. Start with the restricting the air box inlet. That should tell you which way to go.

p.s. make sure that you're starting with new plugs.
