Turbocharging the fzr1000 (carb ????)

Turbocharging the fzr1000<br><br>Guys have any body turbocharged this bikes? I have a 87 fzr 1000 and was wondering if the carbs on this will work as a blow throw setup or will I have to make a custom carb box for them?<br><br>Thanks<br>Tim <p></p><i></i>

I have (and still am trying) to perfect a turbo conversion on my '89 exup<br><br>You will need to make sure that any opening on the carbs that used to 'see' ambient air pressure also see boost pressure by connecting them to the plenum chamber.<br><br>Next you will need a high pressure fuel pump and a boost referenced fuel presure regulator to make sure that fuel pressure is always 2 to 3 psi above bosst pressure.<br><br>Make up a zorst manifold to fit the turbo in somwhere and connect it all up.<br><br>It is actually a heap more work than I've just described but is possible.<br><br><!--EZCODE IMAGE START--><img src="http://img4.photobucket.com/albums/0703 ... <!--EZCODE IMAGE END--><br><br><!--EZCODE IMAGE START--><img src="http://img4.photobucket.com/albums/0703 ... <!--EZCODE IMAGE END--> <p></p><i></i>

If there's anyone that knows FZR turbo converts, TURBO you are the man. If anyone ever wants to do the same, I'll recomend them to you all the time. One day we'll have to get together and I can see the insanity that I'm glad not temted by everyday. I would love to see you completely toast the majority of bikes you come against. I'm making up a new 4 into 1 manifold for the turbo at the moment to try and increase top end power and have chopped up my old log style one because it was crap gas flow wise. Ok now for the questions.<br><br>What did you use for the fuel pump and a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator?<br><br>The most boost I would really want to run is 9psi. And all ways on 114 race gas. And is 150hp out of the stock motor resanble?<br><br>I do no a little about turbo charging.<br>I built a nice twin setup for a mustang and after that the bike really ant much faster. 10.70 @ 128mph 9psi street trim.<br>And I love the way the power comes on. <br><br>Thanks<br>Tim<br><br><br><br> <p></p><i></i>

I'm using a turbo carb fuel pump from here<br><br><!--EZCODE AUTOLINK START--><a href="http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/">www ... <!--EZCODE AUTOLINK END--><br><br>and a Lotus Esprit turbo fuel pressure regulator from the same place, they are made by malpassi and ideal because the lotus blows thru a pair of dellorto carbs.<br><br>the biggest problem is keeping the turbo high enough to allow the oil to drain back into the sump and have a half decent flowing exhaust manifold. Were did you happen to tap into the motor for the drain back?<br>Also what kinda turbo did you use. Is there any junk yard turbos that would work?<br><br><br><br>As for my car. No dyno numbers but going by the trap speeds it should of been very close to 500rwhp. Its just crazy the amount of power you can make with hardly no money.<br><br>Go cheak out www.turbomustangs.com Theres all kinda guys with total stock engines that have dyno over 500hp. <br><br>My engine wasnt nearly stock but my turbos are very close to be maxet out. I'm using an IHI RHB52 American part no 5T503 (if my memory is correct) it's been fitted with a bigger compressor wheel as suggested by a chap running a ZZR1100 motor at 300bhp using the same spec.<br>I got the part no. from this book<br><br> <!--EZCODE AUTOLINK START--><a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... <!--EZCODE AUTOLINK END--><br><br>I am getting problems with overboost and have got to port the waste gate to try and get the gases out quicker along with making a new 4 into 1 ex manifold to replace my first log style one which flows crap. (stuck at 170RWHP)<br><br>My oil return feed goes into the bottom of the sump which is not ideal but I don't have any trouble with smoking or burning oil so it must be OK.<br><br><br>Don't you need forged pistons and steel rods to cope with 500bhp from a smallblock Ford or is yours a Cleavland motor rather than the Windsor <br><br>Mark<br><br> <p></p><i></i>

When you mean your oil return feed goes into the bottom of the sump you mean the oil pan right? Do you happen to no any thing about the Vince hence ingtion for these bikes? <br><br><br>The stock 86-92 mustang 5.0 came with factory forged pistons. Some people have good luck with stock parts and some don’t. It really just matters about the tune if the stock parts will live or not. They say the stock block will brake before a rod or crank will.<br><br>I was useing a stock 100k mile short block. <p></p><i></i>

As far as I know you can not get anything to alter ignition timing as the setup is different to a lot of bikes with the crank position sensor being mounted directly into the case picking up the timing signal from a slot machined in the crank. With Suzukis and Hondas I think they used a pressed piece of steel mounted on the end of the crank to to give the signal and this is the part they change to get different advance. When you run the drain back into the pan wont it need to be above oil leave?<br><br>93 octane is $1.55 hear. And 114 is $4.50 a gallon.<br><br>Thanks for the help so far.<br><br><br> <p></p><i></i>

Jesus Mark, I've got to take my hat off to you, thats some piece of kit.<br><br>You doing any shows with that? I'd be interested in coming to look...<br><br>Did have some experience in supercharging a Dodge Viper last year, but couldn't get the ECU to adapt the fuel/air ratio's correctly throughout the rev range and it burnt the cats out. Was quick though, about 670hp... shame the owner was a tosser... <p></p><i></i>

I don't do any shows, been to the BMF rally a couple of times which was not a bad show. Having no knowledge of turbos I'm just wondering if it's possible to put the turbo about where the EXUP valve is on a normal (sane!) FZR. Is it just a matter of space, or do the gases compress too much in the extra volume in the manifold or something?
