powder coating is the way to go! doesnt cost too much (probably around 30$ per rim)
anodizing is not the way to go, unless you are prepaired to do the cleaning of the entire rims beforehand. besides that its going to cost a lot. you have to remove the factory coating in order to have new anodizing stay. and every single little miss in grinding will show as the anodizing dont stay in those parts. id never do that...

painting... well ... you can do it but its not suggested. you will want to use metal paint if you do it. not the spray cans.

Yeah, and I was thinking that maybe the paint might get scratched off when tires changed....thanx for the tip cterror, that's quite a bit cheaper than I thought it would run--I'll post the actual price when I go to get it done....I'm thinking an orange to match the stripe across the tank would look just fine (see my pics "94 fizzer litre" in photos)!

You can paint your wheels, but you will need to get them chemically stripped down to bare ally, your would need them ally etch primered then painted and laquered. Pain in the arse and not worth it. Get them stripped (Try to avoid shot or sand blasting, it pitts the ally) and powder coated. Never seen anodising on wheels, could look nice though.

Rob

local shop said $35-45 per wheel for powder coating, and pay half of paint costs if a color that don't have yet--so out the door less that $150 most likely. Said they would sand-blast so I'll see if another alternative....the pic of the "Stinger" with the yellow rims looks nice in pic section! I imagine mine would look like that except for orange-------

ah.. theres one more thing. if you can, please ask your powder coating painter to paint your rims as his LAST work of a day and put them in the turned off oven for the night. friends of mine has had some bad experiences with too rapidly decreased temperature. the rims themeself dont mind that but you could have an surface laquer that dont last

mind you.. this is all hearsay. i dont know anything about the actual process of powdercoating.

best

tero

hah...went to the powder coat shop today and he about flipped his lid when I asked him about "roughing up" with sandblasting and letting sit overnight in oven! Good ol crazy guy went off about special "black sand" from florida that is round& not jagged so doesn't jag/pit the metal on blasting...tired of "wet" painters commenting on processes of five years ago, etc. Also, described numbers of bikes who had come in & hot rods spending much $$$---never a problem (bad reps travel far in smaller towns)--he was upset but definitely seemed to know what he was talking about, took me around the shop to show various projects he had just done...looked quality and he earned my respect in his job, so I'll hopefully be gettin the wheels done soon

We have shiesterbolts over here in the UK that give you wheels back looking like they were shot at with a 12 gauge shotgun then painted, and still expect to be paid, had this twice now (and no I didn't part with the reddies). Sound like you have a bloke who knows what he's doing so you should be OK.

Rob

and I was just gonna use some durable high temp resistant spray can stuff for my old grey 90 rims. SInce I'm gonna go with black anyhow I don;t think it will be too noticable. I'll post pics when I'm done. Just went to have my pirelli supercorsa's mounted. Wow these things really do have a profile quite unlike others i have used in the past. whew!

Nbot I hope pics will be coming soon.

Sadly enough, I have used (in the past that is), a 98¢ rattle can of flat black from KMart to paint my wheels. Looked ok and easy to do touch-ups.

Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Has anyone seen my keys?
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers

jjs bevare of the supercorsas when cold. my friend just tipped over his zx636r -04 becourse of cold (and highly worn) supercorsas. they have an AVESOME grip and the profile is quite like no other, but they need to be properly driven worm. and yes, im having those mounted next.

thanks for the heads up cterror...I'm already thinking the same thing...about getting the supercorsas good and warm before leaning over. And as far as the profile...it actually doesn't seem as radical now that they are mounted (I just picked them up minutes ago). Now I'm gonna tape the tires and try spraying the wheels black over the wknd. Worse comes to worse I will just have to have them re-done if the quality isn't good.

I just finshed painting the front wheel after using a wire wheel attached to a drill to quickly remove dirt and grime. I happened to use a spray can of flat black that is of the high heat resistant type for barbecues etc - I was told to use this from a friend due to it's high grade quality. In my opinion, the wheel came out very very well and only time will tell if it's durable. I suspect that since the wheel is not perfectly smoooth, that the pain will adhere well in this application. And for $5.50 a can...worth the effort. I will post pics tomorrow. At least it looks better than that oem gunmetal grey my yamahas came with.

More pics here...

http://img68.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ... 010004.jpg

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... >jjs777 at: 6/27/04 8:38 am

Tim...glad you noticed. It is a perfect day with temps in the lower 70's right now. Just about to head out on the bike and go to my dads house...about a 20 mile ride...along the ocean. Makes for a decent ride. I am jealous of those on the board that have mountains and twisty roads...so the ocean is the only thing that saves me. Maybe I oughta get a boat? nahhhh

but they do have yamaha motors right ? lol I can picture it now...a boat christened the ExUP Brotherhood with a big yami on the back!

I saw some pics of a hovercraft race boat that had 2 250 motors on it and I think that were FZR motors. One for the lift and one for the trust. It was pretty crazy, but really cool.

Tim
<img src="http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v20 ...
Has anyone seen my keys?
Dir. of Entertainment Eddie & the Cruisers
