stumbles/rich down low?

Post by funkfizzer »

Hey guys, new to this forum but it seems to be quality. Anywho, my '95 fzr 1000 runs great except for right off of idle in first gear, usually in town after warming up. I mean sometimes it's bad. Any ideas where to start? Thanks

I'd be willing to bet it's worn emulsion tubes. The low rpm stumble seems to be a common problem. Just in the last 2 months there have been 2 or 3 topics started about this, if you have a look through this one and 89-95 FZR1000 you should find them.

tubes

Post by Nbot »

Howdy Thor, emulsion tubes are also called needle jets and they are the brass tube that runs down into the bowl where the main needle travels up and down in (and the main jet is screwed into the bottom of the tubes also). I saw on your other topic maybe sluggish at low RPM's, which a carb sync maybe good, but if its a flatspot ~3000rpms then check out this common problem of egg-shaped tubes...go to page like 3 or 4 in the 89-95 FZR1000's and look for two thread's called "rev problems" and also "0-3000 Stumble/flatspot"...ps, you can't trust the search engine here on EZboard (its junk!), you just sort of have to look thru the pages I guess.......

Got a similar problem with my '95 Fizzer.
Plus chews gas like crazy, less than 28 mpg !

Spent hours cleaning the carbs and resetting float levels etc.

No real improvement !

Odered a set of needles and needle jets 'cause I see they set on slot #1 so recon they worn and previous owner tried to overcome problem.

Running some wierd nameless headers and pipe, but ordered Akro system. Probably also reason for lousy running

Big benefit came from changing the fuel filter though.

Thanks For the Education Nbot.Good to learn a new term.In my part of the world (India) every one calls them needle jets as you pointed out. Some of my tech friends went hyper and had sleepless nights as that they did not know what an Emusion tube was .Your mail helped calm them down .

The carb Sync along with a proper adjustment of the EXUP valve did the trick. It runs like a dream now.

Thanks Once Again. So.....

Post by dragracer1951 »

did you replace the emulsion tubes (needle jets)
If not and you have over 15K on the bike I'd be willing to bet that you're still pretty rich at idle and just above...Actually, worn needle jets will cause the bike to run rich all the way through the needles and you certainly won't be able to tune around it at idle and just above...
Jim

India

Nbot India's changing big time. We have a project called the "Golden Quadrilateral " Project on since last 6 years to connect East , West ,North, South & Central India with 8 lane highways. About 30% completion has happened .

Yes the cities are crowded, but the infratructure is improving dramtically. To give you an example Bombay has 55 Flyovers which came up in Just 3 years. New Delhi has 27 and 14 more are under construction.I belong to New Delhi its a beautiful city with real wide roads and we have a group of 30+ bikers with Bikes like the Hyabusa, ZX12R, CBR1000RR,1 hARLEY , ZXPR'S ETC TO NAME A FEW. Will get some shots of the Highway we drive on, its a 350Km road from Delhi to Jaipur, concrete and 8 lanes.

We also had the first Bike movie made in Bollywood called "Dhoom" released last week. Check it out on the net.
<a href="http://www.apunkachoice.com/movies/mov4 ...

Bye for Now.

Nice pics Thor, and you're definitely not a bore. Actually, the emulsion tube is the needle jet, different terminology, that's all.
<a href="http://www.factorypro.com/products/need ...

Cut and paste this httpand it will take you right there.
This is a fix for ALL 38mm Mukuni carbs. Factory Pro has them in stock for $20 US per tube and can shio anywhere. Ever since I "left" the moto parts world, they now have more in stock. For a while there, my shop was buying them out, but now.... I have sent these to over 7 different countries and it ios a no brainer, if yours looks worn, then this is the only fix, not to mention that they resist ovalling from the "harder aftermrket needles.

CHUCK D.
