sag ??

just put in some progressive springs cut spacers to there spec 4.8 inch got sag to 23 mm ,but the pre load is wound in to the 2nd ring ,is this ok or should i cut longer spacers . its a 90 with convential forks <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :\ --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <p></p><i></i>

if 23 mm of sag works fine then it's OK but if you need less, and you need to crank the proload up more then yes you may want to make a longer spacer to put the adjuster in the middle of it's range. The adjuster is really just a way of making the spacer longer or shorter<br>Jim <p></p><i></i>

if i remember correct (its been a while since last fiddling with susp) i have 20mm of front sag on yzf750 and two rings shoving. rebound and comp settings as per performance mag instructions. since im no wizard in susp settings this has worked for me really well. i weight abt 75kg and no bottoming out on hard brakings, but i cant set the preload to any less or it will bottom out. <br>The only reason why i would need some stiffer springs, and more sag, is that i get understeering in tight curves regardless that my rearspring is wound quite tight (sag 7mm) and front is dropped throught yokes 1,5cm + i lifted my rear from the ridehight addjuster another 1cm... not slapping the bars yet but theres a definate hint of instability bubbling under the surface<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :lol --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br>steeringdamper should sort that one out for the spring. <br><br>since we are on the issue of susp settings. i looked at old -97 pictures of scott russels yzf superbike and it seems that the geometry of the bike has been altered severly. front through yokes at least 4cm + rear looks like its been lifted 4-5cm!!! <br><br>Has anyone tested (i mean track tested) for optimal geometry? i know that some of you race or at least club race these machines. share some of your wisdom<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <p></p><i></i>

It's all so subjective it's hard to say. I raised the front fork tubes 12mm in the clamps on my ace and love the way it quickened up the steering, but with my fat ass<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :o --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> on it I run out of ground clearance in tight right hand corner #5. I'm going to return the front forks flush and install a ride height adjuster on the rear and crank it up for for height, and hopefully a little more room/lean angle. <p></p><i></i>
