750 cams in a 1000 motor

I have a set of cams from my 750 donor motor that I could use in my 1000cc set-up. Will they fit and is there any benefit in doing this? I am using the six speed and the 750 ignition. The rest of the motor is stock. I'm using 750 carbs too.

Does anyone know the lift and duration of the 750 cams vs. 1000 cams. I think I have a '91 1000 motor.

I'm interested in swapping them over if it will help it any...

A friend of mine did a Kawi ZX7/9 with 750 cams and ignition. He figured that was the way to go. Also, too high of a rev limit, so you have to be carefull...

I've heard of intakes from 600's being used in exh of 1000's (Not Yamaha's...) so you need to figure when the cam needs to open and for how long...then figure lobe centers and look at what is around ...anything is doable just a question f how much you want to spend to develop it...
Jim<img src=

The only way to be sure is to check the lift and duration specification of the cams. Megacycle cams list the specs, From what I know the OW01 Cams have the most OE of both. After building my 91 OW01 to Kit specs the OW01 cams have the most of both. I wanted my bike to have the best rideability vs max HP and the stock OW01 cams fit the bill, sure kit cams may have gotten me 2-5 more HP, but at the cost of ridability. Plus with the Ti-valves, I wanted a build that had reliability, shoot I got 140RWHP with OE Cams, and a bottom end that would kill a modern GSXR-750.
The builder / tuner plays a bigger role than the cams. In fact the KIT OW01 cams differ than the Megacycle cams, everything after the difference is up to the tuner. Timing and the crank make a bigger differance, if your tuner doesn't understand a 5 valve head plus EXUP diferences you are wastind your money.
On my current YZF750 racebike, a good tuner couldn't take out the full system kinks w/o an EXUP, but made 110 HP up top, and she kills modern 600, no problem. Below 5,000K it's rough.
So get some OW01 cams for the YZF750. The KIT OW01 keeps the EXUP while the YZF750 KIT manual gets rid of the EXUP system alltogether. A difference at Yamaha racing I'm sure, why did they get rid of the EXUP on the full race YZF? Well they provided cams and jets with the flatsides that negated it. Do what your wallet can afford.

OW

I am not sure what the set-up is for the Hayabusa, but I think they run two intake cams and it makes good power, cheap and easy is always a good way to go. Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I think thats what those guys are doing...

To bad the intake/exhaust cams are different on the 5 valve motors... Thats why I am interested in the cams from the 750.

Have you ever noticed the ports on the 750 head compared to the 1000's. The 750's are huge. I know the size of the port does't always make the best power, but it is velocity of the port. Smaller the port, the more velocity. I know the thunder ace head looks more like a 750's with the double motor mounts, but I wonder if they have the larger ports as well?

I can't find the specs for the stock 750 cams. And it does list the OWO1 cams and they are the most aggresive ones. I will keep looking for 750 specs...
