I was wondering if anyone has raced a YZF750R on the 1/4 drag track ? I raced this weekend and only got 12's. Can anyone offer any assistance? I want to beat the asses of those guys with those new bikes.

Jim the Dragracer could help you a lot, but these new bikes make more power and are so much lighter. I'd say work on launch technique and possibly use some headgames to psyche the other guy out that would be my strategy. Hell I'm so slow, old ladies regularly spank me off the line in their Buicks.
"There are only three sports in the world: bullfighting, mountain climbing, and motorsports. The rest are mere games."

Quote:
I'd say work on launch technique and possibly use some headgames to psyche the other guy out that would be my strategy.

Bill...These guys are pretty good and know to only race them selves. You're not going to psych anyone out...

And I'd certainly think you could get a 750 into the 10's
It's ALL about how you launch it that;s for sure!!

Drag racing is an odd passion...It seems so simple that anybody could do it. Truth is, it may just be a little more difficult than it would seem at first glance. There are a lot of things happening in a very short period of time and what you need to concentrate on to achieve a little success, it consistency. You have to determine what you do to get down the track each time.
As you get better the mental list you go through may get a little shorter as you turn over some items to the subconscious...
The list that I go through for a street bike are

1) approach the water box from the side and back in so as to not get ANY water on the front tire. It will find it's way to the rear tire and spoil the pass

2) when told to, do the burnout. I use 2nd gear to get proper wheel speed. both feet on the ground, Forward on the tank and all weight on balls of feet. Two fingers on the front brake and 5K rpm's. Snap the clutch out and rock the bike gently back and forth for 8 to 10 seconds to heat the tire

3) Approach the lights, when told, pre stage. Visor down, 1st gear, wait for your opponent that you are going to ANNIHILATE to pre stage... all fingers on the throttle, none on the brake. roll throttle hand all the way forward so when you launch you will be at full throttle...all the way forward on tank. Chest almost touching tank, elbows bent, now tipy toe into the light and hold the position with the feet. Roll throttle to 6K and hold. There are three amber lights...leave when the second one turns on. this is very important.

As you leave, don't just dump the clutch. Slip the clutch and PIN the throttle so the revs never drop. VERY IMPORTANT!!! too much clutch and the front will come up. just adjust the front with how fast you are letting the clutch out. NEVER LIFT!!!! this is very important!!! Your feet should hit the pegs at the same time. preload the shifter and get ready for the tach to get to redline. Takes a LOONG time huh? As the tach gets about 150rpm's away from redline, back off on the throttle with pressure to the shifter and it'll catch 2nd gear. At this time you ought to be in a hard tuck and getting your weight back on the bike to give the tire a little traction. Let the motor run to about 500 rpm's before redline and be ready with the pre load on the shifter. back off and it'll catch the next gear.

Notice please that I have NOT looked down track yet. I am focusing 100% on the tach, the shifter and throttle control. I can see where I'm going peripherally, and I don't have time for stuff that doesn't matter.

At this time you have a bit of time to relax and enjoy the ride. grab the next gear and run it out the back door

You'll see the big end lights as you go by and the big WIN light come on for your side.

BRAKES!!!!!
do this in a straight line. You'll be going a pretty good clip so be smoooth, and powerfull. I slide forward to the tank and sit up, knees out to catch some air.

Turn up the return road and for Pete sake watch the speed. There's always little kids around!!!

Stop at the timing shack and take your time slip and always say "Thank You"

When you get back to your pits, Take a couple of minuites to go of=ver the pass in your head while it's fresh so you'll know what you did right as well as what you did wrong.

Go congratulate the other guy and tell him he ran a good race and maybe he'll do better next time....

Pretty easy Huh?

Anybody can do it...

Jim <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... Well...actually EXUP's don't rule...
Big Block Suzuki's rule

I have an Orient Express clutch in my 1040 with EBC kevlar plates and yes it is still hydrolic

The EXUP's just don't make any power. Not that they CAN'T mind you...it's just that the 25 years of develpoment have already been done on the big Zuk's

the stock basket will not stand up to much abuse as the buffer springs cause a lot of shake in the basket and that will quickly lead to a failed basket which as we all know will elad to a failed set of cases

Jim <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... Ah, so you leave on the second amber. I was always leaving right on the green. I don’t deep stage so I will try that. That will affect r/t and not ¼ mile time right?? Or does the clock start when the light turns green??

Ahren

on a 5 oh light there is a half second between the ambers
on a 4 oh (pro tree) there is 4 tenths between the amber and the green.
time starts on the green
if you ever see the green you were sleeping....
deep staging is when you turn off the pre stage lite and is a no no... most tracks will disqual you for that

Jim <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ...
