Hi I don't want to start a big hoopla here about whats the best oil to use.
My buddy/shop owner has just received a couple of cases of
Amsoil 10/40 fully synthetic.
He's heard a lot of positive remarks about Amsoil.

My bike is the 97 T-ace and since it's time for oil change and filter I could use either the Amsoil or Motul synthetic.
My concern would be the clutch has anyone had trouble with the clutch slipping because of the synthetic?
Let me know your thoughts about it
Jim what do you normally run in your engines?
By the way I haven't noticed any oil consumption on her as of yet
Mike

Mike,
I don't believe the synthetics are making the clutch slip but rather the friction modifiers that have been added. Yamaha Lube oils have synthetics in them (semi-synthetic rather than full synthetic) but they do not have any friction modifiers. Look on the synthetic label to see if it says anything like "not friction modified" or "friction modified". If it does not say anything on the label then look it up on their company website to see if they say anything about friction modifiers; or just go by someone elses experience as to whether a certain oil slips.
Don

Can't even tell you what's in mine. I drop the oil at about 2000 mile intervals and the dealer does the next one. I use semi synthetic with a new filter and have never had a problem or a big change in performance.

FT

Used Motul 300V 4T full synth. Now using Putoline full synth. Never had problems with either, the Motul just changes colour real quick for some reason and I have the urge to drink it 'cos it smells so delicious. Clutch slippage is due to a faultly clutch (If you using oils approved for wet clutches and bikes), yamaha has kaka clutches. I've got a Barnett clutch kit in and a billet clutch basket, no problems what so ever.

Ive used Motul / Silkolene pretty much all my life in road/race apps.

We recently started to stock Amsoil,Gotta say that it impresses the shit outta me!

For example,My 350 is premix 40:1,I now use Amsoil @ 50:1 and the bike is awesome!

I really rate Amsoil after using it,Im in the process of going thru the Exup and after Ive flushed / drained the oil I'll be going Amsoil again.
